Default National Finesse League

It is very obvious that the NFL does not like the "physicality" of the Steelers. That was placed on display quite plainly with the ridiculous amount of flags thrown this past Sunday.

To me this is a clear signal that the NFL wants to be more about finesse and not about physical play. They want to de-emphasize and phase out old school physical teams like the Steelers and highlight more things likes the West Coast offense, ball-hawks like Ed Reed (who provides no run support) and pass happy QBs.

Mike tomlin who believes that this is a "violent" game will need to change that view because the Steelers, in my view, have been chosen to be made an example. The NFL will penalize and demoralize the Steeler players Into submission. It has slowly worked on James Harrison and it will permeate to the other players. The flags this Sunday is only just the beginning

And why is the NFL turning into the National Finesse League? Because they are afraid of lawsuits. Imagine hundreds of ex-players suing for brain related illnesses and handicaps. Especially as more and more evidence comes forward about the long terms harms of repeated blows to the head, the NFL will find itself being accused of profiting from the known detriment and harm of the players. The NFL cannot admit that they are afraid of lawsuits because that statement in and of itself will be admitting that they have some awareness of football playing and head blows are related to dementia.

We live in a nation where smokers sued tobacco companies and fat people sued McDonalds. Lawsuit from ex-players will definitely be coming.

I cannot fully fault the NFL for wanting to be less physical for these future liability issues but I am sad that 30 years from now I won't see anything that resembled the game that I grew up with nor will I see true Steeler football.

The bottom line is this league is always about money and in this situation, they have already concluded that moving to a more finesse league will help them keep a lot of money. Sad but true.

I hate to see anyone become disabled because of their job. All the head shots and physical violence probably led to the problems of one of my favorite Steelers IRON MIKE WEBSTER. It's a shame that these kind of things happen, but on the other hand the players know what they're geting into.

I sort of understand what the NFL is trying to do. Player safety really should be the top priority. With that said, what is getting to Steelers Nation in particular are the inconsistencies with which fines/punishments are assessed.

Personally, I think we should do a better job of limiting players after concussions. Maybe after X amount of concussions, they simply can't play anymore. Have top of the line neurologists that work for the NFL monitoring players. Try and reduce plays like Brandon Merriweather's blatant and vicious helmet to helmet hit. Go after those types of plays. Go after players like Seymour, or hits that happen after the whistle. Overall though, if Goodell really honestly plans on "changing the culture of the NFL" than he will turn this into flag football with the worst teams in the league averaging 31 points per game and the best teams hovering around 50-60. Absurd.

One last thing; you know what I love watching? Defense. I literally enjoy watching the Steelers D playing well more than when I see the Steeler's O playing well. Big hits, interceptions, sacks, good physical play...I love that stuff. How many other people do? How many fans will you lose rather than gain when you take the defense out of this league?

Goodell is working towards somehow having a non-contact football league.

I think it's a witch hunt this year. The Steelers are a targeted team wether you like it or not. It is going to be very hard to finish the season or even get through a playoff game with such one sided calls.

Just imagine what would happen if Manning, Brady or Brees would have gotten hit in the face. The game is being altered for the less agressive teams to go deep into the playoffs. Teams like Pitt and Balt will be flagged in to submission.

I disagree about being flagged into submission. If the ENTIRE team does it's part it's going to be hard to limit the W's.

For me, it's more about the inconsistencies from the officiating crews moreso that what the NFL is or ins't trying to do.

I think the officiating has been consistant. They consistantly give calls to the Patriots. Did you see the offensive pass int. call against Detriot on 3rd down convert? changed the momentum off the game IMO. It has to be nice being a Pats fan. At some point of the game, if your behind, the officiating crew will do something to get u back in the game. I'm kind of jealous.
