great article and i pretty much agree. i said before the season he would win defensive mvp, and while he has come up much shorter in the statistics department than i had expected, he still pretty much won 4 games for us single handedly.

plus he is hands down the fiercest, most violent and hardest hitter in the NFL. i know that is frowned upon today, but that is what helped the likes of lawrence taylor be the the last defensive player to be named overall league mvp.

Players like Troy Polamalu only come by once an era. We may never see a SS of Troy's caliber again until some other freak of nature out there enters the league God knows how long down the road.
The Dick Butkus's, Jack Lambert's, John Elway's, Joe Montana's, Tom Brady's, Peyton Manning's, Barry Sanders's, Emmitt Smith's, Larwrence Taylor's, Dan Marino's, and the Troy Polamalu's are players of their certain positions that don't come by much often in this league, and when they do, some lucky team finds them. We so happened not only to be the lucky team to snag Polamalu and his style of play that may not be seen for some time, but we went up to get him some 15 rounds in the 2003 NFL draft for him to be our man. Ben Roethlisberger grew up idolizing John Elway. Some kid, somewhere, is growing up idolizing the play of Troy Polamalu and that's a beautiful thing to see wear the Black and Gold!

Matthews Jr. was clear and away the DOPY the first half of the year. Wake is having a great year in the sacks department. And Troy has what I like to call "the power punch advantage" this year. Like in boxing, the other guy may have thrown and hit more punches but Troy's power punches are better.
However, if James Harrison ends the year with 13-15 sacks and 100 tackles, with another couple of FF to put him at 8 FF. That has to make him a shoe in. That's impact in every facet of defense. He even has 2 INTs. |

Harrison is an animal.....We are lucky to see the likes of TP on and off the field.

I wish the MVP award wasn't actually the best QB/RB award. Dominant defensive players should have a fair shot at the award too.
Or just get rid of the MVP and just have best OP and DP of the year. |

It is as if Troy was still hesitant after the 2009 injuries until the last several weeks, but his burst to the ball certainly has been in evidence the last 2 games
