Default Weather and Field Conditions For Cincy Game?

This does not sound promising

rain will start Sunday morning and transform into snow as temperatures hover in the mid-30s. Accumulation Sunday afternoon should be around an inch.

Winds will pick up Sunday afternoon, gusting to around 20 mph

My understanding is a new field was put down 2 weeks ago after the annual completion of destroying what was left of the previous field by playing 4 high school games in one day. Hard to believe the new turf will be stable and tomorrow's game presumably will be played in slippery muck. Last time rotten weather visited during the first game after a new field was put down was the 2007 Monday night muckfest with the Dolphins

Of course this would not be an issue if the Steelers went to artificial turf - 4 high school games were played on the Ravens field last weekend after which Steelers-Ravens was played the next night.on a field that allowed the game to be played at a level that maximized the speed and talents of the players

But providing for the best possible playing conditions is not sufficiently old school for the Rooneys.

I can't stand our field. I can see if we were in Arizona or southern california but to have grass in Pittsburgh is unreal. It's constantly a mess and really changes the kind of football we and other teams play.

I suppose it helps our plodding o-line against speed rushers coming off the edge at #7, but IMO it is an overall detriment with the speed we have on defense and at WR - Polamalu probably doesn't get to Flacco before Flacco had time to react if last Sunday's game was played at Heinz Cow Pasture

Injuries can happen on any surface but it also is a safety hazard (e.g. - Roethlisberger reinjured his foot in the New England game because he stepped on a bad spot in the turf and Harrison came out of the Oakland game after he got sand in his eyes from where there was no turf left between the hashmarks)

The league made New England replace its grass field - surprised the Rooneys have not been forced to make the switch

Screw turf. Are you kidding me? Football is an outdoor sport, so don't bring indoor stuff (like fake grass) outside. Weather and field conditions are all a part of the battle of a good football game. If you perform well on a bad field....play basketball!

The Pitt Panthers need their own stadium...

I remember a lot of very messy games that the steelers won in hienz field... People think that the conditions put the steelers at a disadvantage... really? It puts both teams a disadvantage but it puts the visiting team at a bigger one because they aren't used to it. Though their practices this late in the year are in a building on turf, any players who strive to be great will go out of their way to practice on badly taken care of grass...

Well we have the better running game so that'd be a huge advantage for us.

That sounds about right. I'm guessing 75-25 pass-run for the Steelers tomorrow. The whipping winds should make for a lot of deep passing by Ben. Arians used this philosophy flawlessly in the Cleveland game last year. Got us 6 points against a team we should have been able to run all over.

I'm nervous a similar fate awaits us tomorrow if B.A. has his way. I've never liked bad weather games since we had the bus. I always feel like bad weather evens the game up and impairs the more talented team.

In an interesting interview (excerpt below) Carson Palmer appears to agree with you

Itís a very difficult place to play. Itís one of the few places that tries to make the playing surface difficult.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/...with-carson-2/

Of course Palmer & the Bengals are 3-2 at Heinz since 2005, so it must not be that much of an advantage against crap teams

I prefer to see the game played under the best conditions possible - snow, rain, heat, and cold are part of the game when it is played outdoors, but having inferior field conditions after you know based on 10 years of experience teh current field is trash should not be excused
