Yes I agree with MasterOFPuppets. 1996 was indeed bad but as he indicated at least we got Holmes from that draft. I'll also mention Jon Witman who provided solid play at the FB position. 1997 was down right horrible. I'm so freaking glad that Tom Donahoe is GONE!

I gotta go 99...I mean, if you weight your picks accordingly, to have 3 of your top 4 picks be absolute busts is AWFUL. Sure, Porter and Smith were good picks, but keep it in perspective...

Look at needs and who we passed over. With #1, we absolutely wasted a pick on Troy Edwards, largely based on 1 good game he had as a senior against Nebraska. Who did we pass over? Torry Holt.

In Rd 2, we went with Scott Shields. At the time, I thought it was kind of cool because he was such a big body, but it was just a weak draft at that position...the first quality safety taken was Dexter Jackson in Rd 4...another absolutely wasted pick.

In 3A we did okay with Porter, but Kris Farris at 3B was another awful pick. What OL did we pass over for this lump of shit? John Tait, Luke Petitgout, Jon Jansen, LJ Shelton, and Rex Tucker, all of whom except Tucker went on to become starters. Farris was a marginal player floating from team to team for a couple years as practice squad fodder before he was put out to pasture.

im pretty sure that the steelers had holt targeted all along and the rams snagged him up with a top 10 pick right before we chose. we settled for edwards.

(i just looked it up. holt went 6th, boston went 8th, edwards13th. j. kearse went 2 picks later. al wilson was 31st and only 3wr were taken in the 1st round)

lol at 2000. atleast we got plex. the next 2 wr taken in the 1st round were sylvester morriss and that puke r.j soward. plex was preceded by p.warric with a total of 4. (he cost us j. abraham or b. urlacher. im starting to think no on any position players with #32 this year

I played a little fast and loose with the picks...we moved up to get Troy P., so we could have moved up to get Torry Holt. The logic being that we had supplemental picks in the 3 and 4th with which to work...

Regardless, considering that Troy E had almost no worth, just about ANY pick would have been better at #13 that year.

check out the wr thread in the draft forum. pretty disturbing. looks like more than 50% of ALL wr's picked in the 1st round are wasted picks.
