Andy Fantuz of Chatham, Ontario hopes some NFL teams are shopping for a receiver this Christmas.

The CFL's most outstanding Canadian had a workout Tuesday with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has another session planned for Saturday with the Minnesota Vikings.

“That's all I have scheduled so far and they're just workouts,” the Saskatchewan Roughriders slotback said in a video posted on Youtube. “Just kind of feeling it out, see how it goes and, you know, we'll take it one day at a time.”

Fantuz could not be reached for comment Tuesday night, but he posted a message on his Twitter account.

“Pitt workout went well,” he said. “Got to show off the hands lol! Now just a waiting game to see if they think I'll fit in their system.”

A Steelers official told The Canadian Press that it's club policy not to comment publicly on player workouts.

The Steelers already have one Chatham-Kent player on their roster. Kicker Shaun Suisham of Wallaceburg is 9-for-9 on field-goal attempts since signing with Pittsburgh last month.

The six-foot-four, 220-pound Fantuz led the CFL with 1,380 receiving yards this season. He made a career-high 87 catches and scored six touchdowns.

His contract with the Roughriders includes an option for 2011.

He has a window from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 to sign with an NFL team. If he doesn't, he stays with the Roughriders.

The McGregor graduate, who turns 27 on Saturday, was the first Canadian to lead the CFL in receiving yards since Dave Sapunjis of the Calgary Stampeders in 1995. He was also chosen an all-star for the first time in his five-year pro career.

He stayed healthy this season after missing five games in 2009 with a pulled hamstring and 11 games in 2008 with a broken leg.

Fantuz told The Daily News in May that he wanted to play in the NFL.

“That's kind of my goal,” he said. “If I'm healthy and productive this season, I'm going to aggressively pursue that direction.”

The former Western Mustang made four catches for 66 yards in a 21-18 loss to the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup last month. He's played in three Grey Cups and won the CFL championship in 2007.

Fantuz answers questions on his website (www.andyfantuz.com) from his fans. He posted the Youtube video there to inform them about his NFL workouts.

“I'll keep you guys posted on how it went,” he said. “Sometimes when you read stuff in the paper or on the TV, it's not necessarily true, but if it's coming from me, you can bet on it.”

Why do we need another WR? We need O-Line and CB much more than another WR. No need to waste more cap money on this position. (assuming of course there is a salary cap next year)

Sign a receiver? And sit who?

This makes sense only if he also can play offensive tackle

Maybe they're looking for replacement players in case of a strike?
