Other Steelers also deserving of the Pro Bowl
December 28th, 2010

Strong safety Troy Polamalu, outside linebacker James Harrison and rookie center Maurkice Pouncey have been voted to the AFC Pro Bowl squad.

All were deserving selections, and Pouncey’s inclusion on the team is further affirmation that the Steelers landed a special player when they took the 6-4, 304-pounder with the 18th overall pick of the 2010 NFL draft.

More Steelers will be added to the team as various players opt out of the games because of injuries or the best reason of all: they can’t play in the Pro Bowl on Jan. 30 because they will be getting ready for Super Bowl XLV, which will be staged the following week.

If the Steelers don’t make the Super Bowl here are some other players who could later be added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster:

-- Mike Wallace: The second-year wide receiver is first in the AFC in yards per catch (20.2), third in receiving yards (1,152) and tied for fifth in receiving touchdowns (nine).

-- James Farrior: The veteran linebacker is second on the Steelers with 134 tackles, and he has tied a career-high with six sacks. Farrior is playing at a similar level as he did in 2008 when he made the Pro Bowl.

-- Lawrence Timmons: The 2007 first-round draft pick has enjoyed a breakout season as he leads the Steelers with 139 tackles and has also been solid in pass coverage. Timmons has not been as dominant in the second half of the season, which may have cost him a Pro Bowl bid.

That, or he and Farrior cancelled each other out in the minds of the voters.

-- Casey Hampton: The veteran nose tackle is as big a reason -– both literally and figuratively -– why the Steelers are first in the NFL in rushing defense (64.1 yards per game).

Hampton has, as usual, kept blockers off the Steelers’ linebackers, allowing them to stuff the run on a regular basis.

-- Ike Taylor: That pick six against the Raiders would have greatly helped his cause. Unfortunately for Taylor, a blown call cost him, and he has just two interceptions.

Still, he has had a superb season and is one of the better cover cornerbacks in the NFL.

Did I leave anyone out as far as deserving Steelers for the Pro Bowl?

well, we can't have our whole team make it, lol.
I think Wallace would have been my pick if we had one more able to go.
Unfortunately, Wallace and Timmons are still somewhat under the radar across-the-board. We all know this is a popularity contest, less to do with stats.
Farriors play and leadership/field general level dictates he goes this year too....oh well

Wallace and Timmons were the only other players truly deserving. Both players were unstoppable at times.....many times. With out Wallace we'd have the worst offense in the league. Without Timmons our run defense would be average. They both bring something that few players can touch. Their speed is 2nd to none.

Ike has had a solid season but his lack of INT's or big plays eliminates him from the conversation.

Hampton has been good but how good? He's done his job as a NT but allowing the LB's to do their thing, but I don't think you'll ever see too many 3-4 NT's getting nominated to the probowl.

I think Mendy is a probowl caliber player but in Arians offense it would be nearly impossible for him to put up the type of numbers needed. Arians wants to run a passing offense. He does not fit in Pittsburgh. It shows in his horrible play calling every week. I suspect if Whiz were the OC we'd see a cuople more pro-bowlers on offense.

Is that why Arizona only put Adrian Wilson in the Pro Bowl?

Timmons should have been there for sure, I have dooubts about Wallace though, as great as he is, his reception numbers don't bear that consideration. Lloyd had a great year in Denver, Bowe had what 15 TD's, Wayne had over 100 catches again and that is with most teams assigning 2 defenders to him. Andre Johnson, IMO, is the best WR in the NFL. Wallace's time will come, he is fast emerging as a top 5 WR in the NFL.

Ray Lewis is THE greatest linebacker of all time.. Farrior can't hold his jock. The numbers speak for themselves.

Ed Reed plays FS, Polamalu plays SS. Woops. LOL. Get your facts straight bro.. When Ed Reed used to play SS, he was better than Polamalu, and he now dominates the FS position.

Flacco 3rd season = Better than Rapistberger. Look at the passer rating.

jack lambert still dumps little ray lewis's into the toilet to this day.

there are dozens of linebackers ( past and present) better than lewis and none of them murdered anyone.
