Average career of an NFL running back is 3 years. Anybody remember Shaun Alexander who was tearing up the league for a couple of years then all of a sudden became a broken down RB (maybe out of the league now for all I know). I have no problem seeing him run out of bounds. Like somebody else said there is a time and place for everything, and fighting for an extra 5 yards against the Stains... up by 3 TDs (or whatever it was at that time)... after getting a first down anyways is not something I care about.

Yes, and the Madden curse ended his career. He broke his ankle or foot the following season and never had a productive season, or even game after 2006. I think he averaged like 2 yards per carry that season. He broke his wrist the first game of 2007. then his lead blocker hurt his neck,. 3.5 yards a carry for 700 something yards and 4 tds.
He's been out of the league for about 2 or 3 seasons now. He was picked up by the redskins in 2008, didn't do anything, they let him go.

its smart to run outta bounds, saves from all the pummeling, no reason to ever take a big shot for 2-3 more yards

First of all, I have not noticed this as a "trend" with Mendy whatsoever...Mendy does not shy away from contact, at all. Sometimes he dances around too much at the line and doesn't see the best availabe running lane, but there's a huge difference between that and "shying away from contact"

Second of all, I have never noticed Mendy do this when we're in a close game or playing a tough opponent or making any kind of meaningful run whatsoever. I noticed it once or twice in the Browns game, but again that was the Browns game, its self explanatory. There is no need to take unecessary hits when you don't need to. And again, Mendy DOES take said hits when he DOES need to.

Mendy is more than fine, there is nothing to worry about, and if he were utilized properly in this offense (he is not, and I don't just mean "running the ball more") he would have top 5-7 stats year in, year out. And we would never be having all these arguments about him.

No one is saying he is shying away from contact, there are many runners who take a beating, but once they get to the sideline they just step out.
He also is the 6th leading rusher this season.
I'd rather he not risk breaking his leg like Bo Jackson, and live to fight another day as a Steeler running back.

he was trying to stop the clock so we could run the score up to 41 pts instead of 34 ;)

for the record, i don't know if anyone noticed, but mendy isn't jerome bettis, he's a big play rb with enough size to break tackles, but his forte is more so breaking runs of 20+ yds

He's a finesse runner. It'd be nice to have a bruiser to compliment his style.
