NFL Division Winners Prior to the Wild Card, winning one's division was the first goal of every team to ensure an opportunity to play for the NFL Championship or Super Bowl. But even in the modern era, the worst NFL divisions do not get Wild Card qualifiers. So winning the division is of paramount importance. Unfortunately, NFL division winners often have worse records than teams who do not earn a Wild Card berth. And the worst division winners sometimes host a playoff game against a team with a better record.
