Question Steelers fan in Oakland?

Sorry guys, but I was just wondering if you could tell me how safe Oakland be for "poor" Steelers fan? I'm going to Oakland visit my friend and to see my godson who live there. I already bought our Steelers jersey and a hat for my godson to try to straighten him up (he is only 4 years old) as Steelers man, since he is surrounded by bunch of Raiders fans in Cali.

But my friend told me "You probably shouldn't be wearing your Steelers stuff around here when you come. You might get killed cuz we've got some crazy people around here." She is not into football but she knows how I am. She moved to Oakland area just few months ago, so I don't know if she really knows the place and people. Therefore, I was wondering if any of you guys can tell me if I would get some crap while I'm taking my godson with me in the area.

BTW, I was shocked to see that no one was wearing any Steelers stuff when I visited Pittsburgh last August. It was the either the second or the third week of pre-season games (I think the Vikes were gonna play with us). I was in the mid downtown around 12 o'clock and I was there for like 3 or 4 hours. Only one old man had a sweatshirt with Steelers logo on. I felt like I wasn't in the right place.

You'll be fine. I drove down to the game last month. I wore Steeler gear before the game, to the game, after the game, and the next day. I never once felt physically threatened by any Raider fans. I was yelled at plenty at the game, and on the way home though.

I'm sure you will get plenty of people laughing or teasing you, but no one is going to kill you for wearing Steeler gear. Well, unless you try to start something yourself. That goes for anyone, no matter what you are wearing though.

Wear your Steelers gear proudly, Mongul! No matter how much heckling you may receive, being a Steelers fan, even in a random less than stellar season, is still always better than being a Raiders fan! I hope your godson enjoys his gear!

I had a bad experience in Oakland when I went. I dislike that town. Their fans suck!

Haha, I thought you meant Oakland, like on the Pitt campus. Shouldn't have any trouble finding fans there, lol.

THANKS GUYS. LOVE YOU ALL. I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO PUT MY GODSON IN WEIRD SITUATION FOR WEARING SOME CLOTHES. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT I'M TRYING TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH HIM AND THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST TIME THAT WE'RE GONNA SEE EACH OTHER. I JUST WANTED TO BE PREPARED IF SOMETHING GOES DOWN. ALL I KNOW IS THE VIKINGS FANS ARE PRETTY FRIENDLY NICE (AND VERY LOYAL) PEOPLE, SINCE I HAVEN'T BEEN AROUND A MUCH.

MAY GOD BLESS US WITH VICTORY OVER THE BROWNS THIS SUNDAY!
