Default Pittsburgh Steelers lead NFL in merchandise sales

Ask NFL TV executives who air as many Pittsburgh Steelers games as possible and they'll you the reason: the team has one of the biggest national fan bases. Want proof? The Steelers ranked No. 1 out of the NFL's 32 clubs in team merchandise sales at NFLShop.com this season, said Joanna Hunter of the NFL on Thursday.

Dallas Cowboys gear was the No. 2 seller from the sales period stretching from April 1, 2010 through Jan. 2, 2011. The champion New Orleans Saints finished 3rd. The Philadelphia Eagles, led by Michael Vick, came in 4th while Tom Brady's New England Patriots came in 5th. Rounding out the Top 10 clubs in merchandise sales: 6) Chicago Bears 7) New York Giants 8) Green Bay Packers 9) Indianapolis Colts 10) New York Jets.

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu led all players in individual jersey sales. Saints quarterback Drew Brees came in second while Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who was No. 1 in jersey sales for most of the season, slipped to no. 3. Rounding out the top 5 were the NFL's two glamor quarterbacks: Peyton Manning (4); and Brady of the Pats. (5).
