Man, the Pirates radio announcers are AWFUL!

I live in the northeast corner of the state, so I pick up the Bucs on XM. Half the time I get the away feed, but right now they are at home, and WHO THE HECK ARE THESE GUYS CALLING THE GAME?

I mean, god forbid you interrupt your little banter to explain how that guy got on second base! Or describe that single in the same tone of voice that you are talking about the Phillies pitcher's debut... "He only played a few games for their minor league team, there's a single, and then they brought him to the big club..." Or Bay's bases clearing triple with absolutely no fervor at all! There's a fly ball to right, He's back (at this point I'm thinking the inning is over), it's off the wall, one run is in, another, the bases are cleared and Bay's going for third (here the guy finally got a little bit pumped).

If this is the attitude down at PNC Park no wonder the team sucks. It's a miracle they get out of bed and get down to the stadium.

While it's been a while since I've listened to the Pirates on the radio, I believe your talking about Greg Brown? I'm not all that crazy about him personally. Pretty dry if you ask me. TV broadcasts here are much better. While being a complete homer, Lanny Frattare calls the game well and with great enthusiasm.

Since we are the topic of announcers, I've noticed for the last four years that Penguins play-by-play announcer Mike Lang has started to slip. The guy goes off on rants and stories for ten minutes at a time. He's oblivious to who got a penalty and for what reason. Back in the day he used to ring off players names and stats from twenty years ago. Useful information while also being able to tell you what's going on in the game that is currently being played. There were strong rumors that before this past season began the Penguins FO was strongly debating on giving him a new contract.

The one guy I would love to see take over Lang's spot is Paul Steigerwald (Penguins radio). Talk about a guy that knows the game inside and out, calls the game with enthusiasm and is on top of his game. If your a Penguin fan and if you haven't yet, listen to one game on the radio and you will see what I'm talking about when it comes to Paul Steigerwald.

In regards to Mike Lange....

i dunno..he's my favorite of ALL TIME...I mean..gawd...between him and Myron Cope....I ALWAYS had the TV turned down and the radio on...all of his sayings....he is so unbelievably entertaining...and most of all...when the Pens screw up?..he says so....he's never been afraid to call it like it was...

In regards to slippage?...maybe so...3 years...2 of which the Pens were the worst...and one where there was no NHL at all....might take its toll...

No problem with getting into the game. That's what I use to love about the guy. His emotion and his knack for giving out great facts and statistics while also being able to call a great game. Not the case anymore. I think the guy is going senile.
