Default Injured McFadden expects to play against Ravens

Injured McFadden expects to play against Ravens

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Cornerback Bryant McFadden said his abdomen "was doing a lot better" before he aggravated the injury during Tuesday's practice. Even though he was limited at yesterday's practice, McFadden expects to be in the lineup with the Steelers play Baltimore on Saturday in an AFC divisional game. "I plan on it, as long as there aren't any setbacks," McFadden said. McFadden plans on practicing a little more today than he did Wednesday. Barring any setbacks today, McFadden said he will play Saturday. "It might be a little situation where I am going to have to play through a little discomfort, or pain," McFadden said. "I just have to make sure that it is something I can tolerate."

If he can't play, William Gay will start at cornerback and Anthony Madison will move into Gay's nickel back spot.

Not practicing for the Steelers were safety Troy Polamalu (ankle), while McFadden and defensive end Aaron Smith (triceps) were limited. For Baltimore, center Matt Birk (knee) and wideout Donte Stallworth didn't practice. Cornerback Chris Carr (thigh) was limited.

Heinz Field has a new layer of sod in place since the last time Shaun Suisham kicked there. Still, that won't change the way he goes about his business, and that includes making a special trip to Heinz Field to practice off the new turf that was installed after the Winter Classic two weeks ago. "I don't want to overcomplicate things," said Suisham, who has made 14 of 15 field goals and all 19 extra points since being signed Nov. 16. "I want to go in and treat the game like any other."

Joe Flacco rushed seven times for 26 yards against Kansas City a week ago both season highs. Even though Flacco made some key runs in the playoff win over the Chiefs, linebacker Lawrence Timmons said that not allowing Flacco to scramble is way down on the priority list. "They have way more weapons with Ray Rice, (Todd) Heap and the two wide receivers outside," Timmons said. Timmons is more worried about Flacco buying time in order to hit receivers deep downfield. "He is definitely a mobile quarterback and we have to keep him contained, but that also gives him more time to look downfield and throw deep on us," Timmons said.
