Toss up between Barry Sanders and Walter Payton..."There are solid MVP's and then there are participants." If you want to go the quarterback route then I would have to say either Unitas or Montana. Jerry Rice, no way!!! If I played football since caveman evolved I would have his stats as well.

But as far as WR MVP's go, you'd have to give JR strong consideration.. I meant he guy eat, drinks, sleeps, and lives football. There's nobody w/ a tougher workout regimine than he's got. MVP of all time, nah I wouldnt give it to him, but there are plenty that would. But he does need to hang it up, its time Jerry, retire and let your legacy speak for itself.

Jim Brown. Have heard more people(and people who know football) respect this man for what he did on the field, and for leaving the field early so that their numbers would look huge even now. He could have been so untouchable. Its like when you say Emmitt is the rushing leader. You sigh, and say yeah if Barry hadn't retired. Same here. Whoever you mention, its a sigh and then, "if only Jim Brown had played as long to make the comparison easy". therefore, Jim Brown.

I agree with the younger generations with their answers, cause of tv I grew up watching those guys as well. I just find it interesting watching the division between old school and new school. Here and in the lb thread as well. Just noticing...
We'll see how this continues to play out.

It's funny because I am 19 and everyone expects me to say the best RB ever is Barry Sanders.Well no,the best ever is Jim Brown. If he wouldn't have retired Emmit wouldn't be the all-time rushing leader.Jim Brown was a beast in his era,and if he played today he'd still be a beast.Jim Brown is,was, and always will be the best RB to ever play the game.
Now the all-time WR MVP is Jerry Rice.Nobody will ever touch him.Not T.O.,not Marvin Harrison, nobody. All-time Steelers MVP is Terry Bradshaw. He is the one player who if we didn't have in the 70's,we wouldn't have won a SB.Everyone else was despensable, the Blond Bomber was indesepnsable.

I really can`t put Sanders on a list of MVP, let alone at the top. He may be one of the best ever, or even the best ever. But MVP? MVP of what? his crappy team, big deal, an MVP wins games , big games. It wasn`t Sanders fault , but still his is one of the greatest ever. But not MVP.
