Steelers' McFadden hopes to play against Jets on Sunday
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pitt...s_718973.html# By Scott Brown PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW Thursday, January 20, 2011 • Bryant McFadden didn't practice Wednesday, and the Steelers cornerback is cautiously optimistic that he will be able to play Sunday. McFadden said he has been battling hip and abdominal injuries, and the sixth-year veteran only played part of the first quarter Saturday before leaving the 31-24 win against Baltimore. If McFadden is unable to play, William Gay would start opposite Ike Taylor, and Anthony Madison would replace Gay at nickel back. "I need to get it at a situation where it is bearable," said McFadden, who plans to try practicing later in the week. "I'm optimistic. We still have a few days before Sunday. I feel that there is a strong chance that I can get out there and do what I can do." • Coach Mike Tomlin took issue with an ESPN reporter saying before Saturday's game that the Steelers would run a trick play against the Ravens if they got a certain look from Baltimore's defense. Tomlin made it clear that he didn't appreciate the report. When asked by the same reporter how much time it takes to prepare for Jets coach Rex Ryan's defense, Tomlin said, "It depends on whether or not you give him my plays, you know." • In addition to McFadden, strong safety Troy Polamalu (Achilles), receiver Arnaz Battle (illness) and safety Will Allen (knee) didn't practice. All are expected to play Sunday. Polamalu, who didn't play in the Steelers' 22-17 loss to the Jets on Dec. 19, is slated to practice Friday.
