Schefter: Roethlisberger battled illness
January, 23, 2011 Jan 23 12:48 PM ET http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/pos...attled-illness By James Walker PITTSBURGH -- Last week it was Baltimore Ravens tailback Ray Rice who got sick in the playoffs. This week it's Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Roethlisberger battled a cold this week that left him without a voice for two days. The good news for Pittsburgh is Roethlisberger is fine now and his illness isn't expected to be a factor in Sunday's AFC title game against the New York Jets. Last week Rice battled an illness, which created panic among Ravens fans. Rice calmed the fears via Twitter by saying he was fine, and he played the entire game against Pittsburgh. (According to BSPN Tomlin said Ben's voice should be okay but if it is not then the Steelers would lose some of their no huddle ability. - mesa) |

Good, glad it was just a cold and nothing major.

As usual this news surfaced on ESPN yesterday and was confirmed today
Post-Gazette and P-G+ have been silent on this - maybe Ed. B. has been intimidated after Tomlin got on him for describing what went on in practice earlier this season? |

Roethlisberger loses voice; McFadden's status uncertain
Sunday, January 23, 2011 By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11023...d=steelers.xml Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger might have problems barking signals today in the AFC Championship Game against the New York Jets. Roethlisberger was whispering on Friday and lost his voice over the weekend, though it's not known how he is feeling today or if it will become an issue during the game. Roethlisberger sits next to tackle Max Starks in the locker room at the team's practice facility, and Starks was talking barely above a whisper early in the week. Also, the availability of cornerback Bryant McFadden, who is bothered by an abdomen/groin injury, will not be determined until game time. McFadden practiced on Friday for the only time during the week, but he did not respond well to the workout. If he can't play, he will be replaced in the starting lineup by cornerback William Gay. That means cornerback Anthony Madison will be the nickel back in the sub-package defense. Read more: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11023...#ixzz1BtctMnLo |

P-G local beat reporter Gerry Dulac jumps on the story 24 hours after ESPN broke it and Schefter had a follow-up earlier today - maybe Dulac read about it on ESPN
Further evidence why newspapers are dying |

Ray Rice played with a stomach flu last week and looked very good except for his fumble. Come on, anyone who actually looks into this is really thinking too hard.
