Default Football ESP... Does it exist?

Before I get to an interesting story, I can't believe we are going to the SB again! As a fan base we are so fortunate and blessed. I grew up in the early Cowher years and it was so frustrating to watch back then. We all knew deep down that we were missing a key component to set us over the top, a quarterback. Well, we have one folks and despite the critics that have amassed in the media he gets the job done. It is usually not pretty ball but nonetheless I am getting to appreciate our ugly style.

Anyhow...

I am originally from Baldwin and moved out to Las Vegas some time ago. I do miss PA but I do appreciate the fact that Las Vegas has a few ice rinks (play hockey), opportunities for late night breakfast at the casinos, sports-book is convenient when I want to place a wager, etc. Sports wagering is sort of what I do on the side but I only pick NFL, hockey, World Cup soccer.. To be successful at it, one has to focus on just a few sports or you'll stand to lose quite a bit of money. Needless to say NFL is almost over and I am almost in my off season. Hockey is great but it is sometimes hard to predict because of the 80 some games that are played. OK enough of the background.. Let me cut to the chase... So a friend of mine is from Seattle, Washington and he is actually a professional sports bettor. This is what he does for a living and he does fairly well from an earnings standpoint. He is a Seahawk's fan but I wouldn't consider him a die-hard. He is more or less loyal to the teams that make him money. Each spring, the two of us sit down to discuss "futures betting." This process takes several weeks and we leave no stones unturned. We pick three likely scenarios (or teams) from the AFC and three from the NFC. In 2009, for instance, we had the Colts and Saints on our tickets. So two of our six teams. As the playoffs move along we sell off our tickets based on our discussions. In other words, you get better odds in the spring and this is before the free agency period/NFL draft. Risk/reward. This past spring (2010) we picked Vikes, Falcons, Packers, Steelers, Jets, Baltimore. However, our SB pick for this year was Steelers and Packers. The funny part is that while we were discussing this year's picks I told my friend that I had a dream that the Steelers and Packers went to the SB. This was actually before we started to analyze the teams. I'm not big into the whole dream stuff but I distinctively remembered this one. However, logically we felt as though the Steelers and Packers were the likely scenario. My family is completely blown way but they are not surprised by my prediction. This has happened before.. My kid brother was asking before the start of last year's SB how the game would unfold. I told him that Manning would throw a pick six inside five minutes to seal the deal for the Saints. The jaw dropping around the TV was epic! The bottom line is that trends are the reason that Manning was picked off at the end of the game. The Saints forced the most turnovers last season and when a team is hot these scenarios are likely to occur. One could say the same thing about the Giants beating the Patriots. The Giants were able to get front four pressure on Brady without blitzing LB’ers, safeties, etc. So you are probably wondering who wins this year’s SB? From what I remember, we do. However, you can expect a nail bitter. This is going to be our toughest SB match up yet and don’t be surprised a likely hero makes another big play at the end. Can anyone guess? Who was the guy on defense that made all of the game changing plays this year? You got it.. Troy P. Trends, trends, trends.. Expect a back and forth game. As always, let's enjoy this experience and stay humble.

My playoff picks for this season:

(Wildcard)
Ravens over KC - win
Jets over Indy - win
Packers over Eagles - win
Seahawks over Saints - win

(Divisional)
Steelers over Ravens - win
Patriots over Jets - loss
Packers over Falcons - win
Bears over Seahawks - win

(Conf. Championship)
Steelers over Jets - win
Packers over Bears - win

(SB)
Steelers over Packers (nail bitter comes down to a big play at the end)

OK, listen to me very carefully.

I want you to think of six numbers between 1 and 59 and PM them to me.

Have you ever seen the Penn & Teller show? The number stuff is all garbage.. I'm just telling you what I saw in my dream. You should be happy we win :-) I thought it would be an interesting discussion.. Also, this was the best playoff run I've ever had in my life. It will probably never happen again...LOL

That's right :-) You guys have the lottery.. Nope, not that talented! I think I just see the NFL from a different perspective. The dream stuff is more amusing than anything. However, if you are going risk your own money you better know what you are doing.

my heart can't take a nail biter on the last play, nor can my marriage.
