Default Rate our Day 1 draft.

Tell us what your thinking, were the moves today, up and down, the right ones. Is Holmes the real deal, should we have taken White? Only time will tell, but how do rate the draft for the Steelers after day 1.?

I give it a B-, although i really like the Holmes pick!

I like the Holmes pick alot..he fills an immediate need at WR/PR. He's the best WR in this draft and we snagged him so Im happy about it.

I think Anthony is a bit of a project, but not too much..he just needs some guidance and good coaching. he's got all the tools and talent to be a beast for us, and he can learn behind Troy and Ryan.

Willie Ried puzzles me alittle in that he's a bit of a project I think, but if the coaching staff believes in him, then I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Day 1.. B

I like that we got Holmes, but I tend to agree with the NFL Network commentators... I don't think it was really necessary to pay such a heavy price to move up seven spots for a player that was likely to fall to us anyway, considering he was the only WR picked in the entire first round. Even if he had gone between 25 and 32, Sinorice Moss would have been an acceptable "consolation prize." But there's no doubt Holmes is going to be an impact player from opening day for us, and I look forward to seeing him torch some opponents this fall.

I'm naturally disappointed about trading down from our second-round pick, but since it doesn't look like we missed an opportunity for a better prospect at safety, I guess it doesn't really matter. I was really hoping for a miracle, and that we would trade up in the second round to get LenDale White. I really, really, REALLY think that White was way underestimated and generally given short shrift today, and I think he would have made a good power back in the Steeler's system to complement Willie Parker's speed/finesse style. I don't care that he was seen as lazy or too heavy - the Steelers like big, punishing, straight-ahead downhill runners like him, and he would have flourished with the Steelers. I think Tennessee got the biggest impact today, getting both Vince Young and White.

I'll say C+

I can live with Santonio Holmes as the first pick but I still think he's still there at 32 and the Steelers moved up when they didn't have too.

Anthony Smith seems like a solid pick at number two.

Willie Reid just strikes me as player the Steelers picked because that's where the dart that was thrown together by a blindfolded Cowher/Colbert landed on the Draftboard.

a C at best. we had average needs and replaced them with average players. im hoping holmes proves to be a true #2 AND I THINK HE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DO JUST THAT. i like w. reid. just as a later round pick. this pick wipes out the prospects of nance, bloom, robinson, etc. i still cant figure out why players like bing and r. white were passed up other than thm being drug addicts. as far as the steelers trading their picks, i give them an A. they made the movement work really well for them. i just dont know if a wr, back up safety and a return specialist were the players worth moving for.

im hoping we can trade our 5th for tj duckett and forget about a rb in the draft and spend the rest of our picks on defense + m. robinson as a back up rb/qb.

good thing is we can afford to come away with a c in this draft. hell, last year i think many didnt give us much better than that and it worked out just fine. i felt going in to this the greatest needs were special teams and that has definitely been adressed. this draft wont make us or break us. over all we got some good players who are an upgrade.

pretty average.

B seems fair.
Made the move to be sure to get who you wanted, and really don't think it cost us too much.

Solid second round pick, makes ya wonder about why Bing is dropping like a lead balloon.

Third may be a stretch but being CHAMPS we have the luxury of taking on projects. I see him more important as punt returner and back up WR.

Maybe Steelers showing their hand a little bit going to more 4 and dare I say 5 wideout sets. Having 2 guys that can fly down sidelines will give Ben more room to throw!
