Default Cowboys Stadium roof to be closed for Super Bowl

Cowboys Stadium roof to be closed for Super Bowl

By Wire reports

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

The retractable roof on Cowboys Stadium will be closed for Super Bowl XLV, the NFL said Tuesday.

The forecast high for Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 6) in Dallas is 49 degrees with sunny skies approximately 10 degrees cooler than normal -- according to AccuWeather.com.

The Steelers have played one Super Bowl in a closed environment, winning their fifth Lombardi Trophy with a 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL at Detroit's Ford Field.

The Steelers again will don their road white jerseys for a Super Bowl after the Packers chose to wear their home green jerseys for this year's big game. "We're excited about that," Packers coach and Greenfield native Mike McCarthy told USA Today yesterday. The AFC and NFC conferences rotate first-choice of jerseys on a year-to-year basis. The Steelers won Super Bowls IX, XL, and XLIII in their road whites and haven't worn their home black uniforms since a 27-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX.

After audiences of more than 50 million people watched them get into the Super Bowl, the Steelers and Packers have the chance for more bragging rights: most-watched television show in U.S. broadcast history. Super Bowl XLV would need to draw more than the 106.5 million people who watched last year's Saints-Colts showdown.

Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) of Wisconsin and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) have wagered a sampling of their state's signature foods on the Super Bowl. If the Packers win, Toomey will send Johnson a delivery of Primanti Bros. sandwiches, topped with French fries, coleslaw and tomatoes. If the Steelers win, Johnson will pay up with an assortment of Wisconsin bratwurst, cheese and beer.

I have no problem with the white jerseys!

They are closing it so the people paying $200/ticket to stand in the plaza outside can't hear the crowd.

But, for an extra $150, you can get a paper-cup attached to string, that goes right into the stadium, attached to another cup. Pretty good deal.

makes sense to close the dome...hate to see it rain or something on that fake turf. If tis gonna include weather, it should include real grass, otherwise, close it up and play on a fast field.

Which I also have no problem with. Oh No! its a fast field! with Wallace, Sanders and Brown. Oh no!

Don't take that weather forecast too seriously. North Texas weather is WAY too variable in February to make a good forecast this far in advance.

January and February in North Texas, it can be sunny and 70 at lunchtime, and snowing by dinner.

And, the forecast could change three times before gameday.
