Admittedly, this is from The Sporting News, but they cribbed a lot of this from their sources from the 32 NFL teams, so it's not entirely fiction. Based on their big board, this is how the Steelers did value-wise.
Holmes (TSN value=14) We got him #25. This high up in the draft, that's a steal Anthony Smith (TSN value=108) Steelers at #83. Considering that the Steelers coveted this guy, not far off. Willie Reid (TSN Value=196) Steelers at #95. Maybe a reach, but, again they were addressing need and coveted this guy. Willie Colon (TSN Value=Off the Board...but TSN only had 19 on their board) This was a steal at 131, because it was a guy Grimm wanted, and I've seen several sources stating that he has 1st rd talent. Orien Harris (TSN value=59) Steelers at 133. Steal. Omar Jacobs (TSN Value=74) TSN has this guy going at the top of the 3rd, and we got him in the 5th at 164. Steal. Charles Davis (TSN Value=198) Steelers at 167. A 5th rounder in the 5th round, so... Marvin Phillip (TSN Value=151) Steelers at 201. Not bad. Cedric Humes (TSN Value=180) Steelers at 240. They had Humes in the 5th, and we picked him up at the end of the 7th. I think this kid will be a surprise. |

Amazing how they can be so close on some picks and so far off on others it makes you wonder what kinda crack they smoke on some of these reviews. Im excited to see what Humes does in preseason !

anthony smith and charles davis show if the steelers really wanted them they had to grab them or a round earlier. had we not grabbed a. smith, dallas probably wouldve (one of their coaching staff is very familiar with smith) davis was likely to go in the last round. not really a reach, just what happens when you draft last.
atleast 1 pick in every draft should be a gamble pick. this was reid. the reward could be high |

This draft was definitely a success in regards to the needs we addressed. I have to respect our talent evaluaters and considering our position we had to make decisions based on those needs. We are on our way to a repeat good people.

Gee, I wonder why those guys aren't scouts for NFL teams? I don't care what any "magazine" thinks of the draft and the players in it. "In Marvin We Trust", and I'm sure it's the same for you Steelers fans. The coaches and scouts are the only opinions that matter, if Mel Kiper actually knew what he was doing, someone would hire his big haired ass.

Early comments from Jacobs seem to indicate he wants Ben's job. Easy Omar. Let's start with Batch. |
