Default Steelers Had All the Distractions

Looking back does anyone even remember Team-Photo-Gate? At first it seemed like the Packers may have to field a few unnecessary questions before getting down to business, but the whole team photo thing was a non-issue that basically happened two weeks ago and since then, Green Bay has been smooth sailing under the media blist’s radar.

But for the Steelers… well it’s been one stupid issue after another:

-Ward and Ike at a strip club.
-Peter King and his Goodell misprint about Ben.
-Is Ben an “elite” QB? And why not?
-Will Pouncy play? Will Aaron Smith play?
-Polamalu wins POTY (a positive, but still took away from focusing on the game)
-Pouncy and Smith will not play.
-And of course, Tuesday night Karaoke.

Now I am sure none of this will have a negative effect on how the Steelers prepared and will play in the game. BUT, it sure helped those cheese-head newbies on the other side of the field. It’s the biggest single game of their lives and they have been given a hall pass away from the media. Everyone knows that Super Bowl week is over hyped and peppered with distractions that make it hard to stay focused on the simple part of just playing the game of football on Sunday.

Well, the Packers won that one.

I can’t wait for 6:30pm. GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-this almost makes me wonder how the Steelers (of the very late 70's) handled their 4th Ring. From what I remember of that game, they were just so calm, cool and MEAN - and well, just did it. :)
Of course, maybe back then, the media-hungry-"vampires'" weren't as prolific as there are today ???

Also, Terry didn't get caught in a washroom ? unless it was with Burt Reynolds -and even then nobody gave a shi_. ! ...back then, nor was there any Internet either.
crazy eh.

Really? I'm pretty sure no one was worried about the strip club/bar incidents. It's perfectly legal. And is Ben elite? Been asking that question for years now. Will Pouncey/Smith play? Hood and Doug practiced the past 2 weeks.

The Packers went to church every day and watched The Sound of Music and went to bed at 7:30 pm every night.

I don't know. These really aren't distractions, IMO. Ben's singing was a non-issue. Same with Ike and Hines.

Favre partied night before Super Bowl in 1996 and was dry heaving before the game. Now that is a distraction. Still didn't bother him apparenty.
Also, the horny Falcon DB who won "good guy" of the year in the NFL couple of days before SB (soliciting a hooker)
Or Barret Robbins, the Raiders no-show depressed center.

If anything, Steelers know how to show up Super Bowl week (for the circus surrounding it) and the game itself.

I'm just saying that I think the Packers got lucky with having little to no distractions.

Some people are really stretching for motivation for their team. I guarantee the Steelers will be ready to punch the Packers in the mouth from the opening kickoff. The question is are the Packers up to counterpunching or are they going to succumb to an A $ $ whipping of immense proportions. Only time will tell if they have the jitters and come out slow or if they are ready to go. I personally don't think the Packer's O-line will be able to contain Harrison and Woodley both if they try to spread the Steelers out. Which will either cause sacks, quick throws or pick sixes to the Troys of the world. This is the big stage. Are the Packers ready for prime time? I am not saying they are not. But I suspect they are going to come out slow and the Steelers will eat the first half off the clock before the Packers get rolling. I am guessing 10-0 lead for the Steelers by the second quarter.

That's exactly right. ESPN was in its infancy at the time and there really was no 24 hour news cycle. There was no Internet, no Twitter, no TMZ, or any of the other crap.

I don't think any of those things have been a distraction to the Steelers. Do you think they have been sitting in front of the t.v.s watching sports center? They really don't care what Boomer and his losers think and haven't had the time to watch that crap.
