Default Mini camp starts tomorrow

Minicamp begins tomorrow for the Steelers
Friday, May 12, 2006

By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Peter Diana, Post-Gazette
The loss of veterans such as Jerome Bettis, Antwaan Randle El and Kimo von Oelhoffen will leave a big void in the Steelers' locker room.

They will gather tomorrow for the first time as a team since they paraded down Fifth Avenue more than three months ago. They will swap stories, high-fives and relive those moments of yesteryear when a late-season surge nudged them into the playoffs, where an unprecedented run on the road brought them their first Super Bowl victory in 26 years.

It will culminate June 2, when the Steelers visit the White House and, later that day, receive their Super Bowl rings in a private ceremony.

That will be it. The celebrations will end, and the 2006 season will begin. Little will be done after that to celebrate their Super Bowl XL victory, certainly not when the season opens Sept. 7 against Miami at Heinz Field.

The Steelers, starting with their three-day minicamp tomorrow on the South Side, can relive their Super moments for the next several weeks, but after that, coach Bill Cowher, along with Dan and Art Rooney, wants their focus on the 2006 season and a possible repeat.

From KDKA.

New Steelers Get Ready For Mini-Camp
(KDKA/AP) PITTSBURGH Some of the newest additions to the Pittsburgh Steelers are heading to the South Side this morning.

They are getting fitted for practice uniforms and equipment for the Steelers mini-camp.

The camp gets underway tomorrow and lasts three days.

Practice is mandatory, so most of the veteran players are expected to be there as well.

Meanwhile, recent comments by wide receiver Hines Ward have been drawing attention.

Ward says he doesn't plan to step up and help the team's number one draft pick, Santonio Holmes, unless Holmes asks for help.

Ward told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Troy Edwards, a first-round pick in 1999, and Plaxico Burress, a first-round pick in 2000, both rebuffed his offer to help them.

He says they looked down on him because he was a third-round pick.

Back in 2002, Antwaan Randle El, a second-round pick, asked for his help and he was happy to offer it.

Ward is a four-time Pro-Bowler and was the Super Bowl MVP.

It would be nice if KDKA would telecast some of this. For one there isn't crap on TV on the weekends, secondly alot of other teams do it. I know the Bears did it a few years when I was out visiting my rents in Chicago.
