Default Favorite Memory from 3 River Stadium

Gone are the days of the cookie cutter stadium like Riverfront in Cincinnati, 3 River and the old Phillies venue. What are the fondest memories some of you have from the old stadium? I know many of you more than likely saw your first Steelers game there. One thing is for sure, the stadium may have changed, but the Steeler swag has not. No sports franchise reflects the attitude of an entire city like Pittsburgh does.

My first Steelers game. I was 7 years old and went with my dad. I remember we got our ASS handed to us by Steve Young, Jerry Rice and the vaunted 9'ers at the time. I do remember Kordell making an AWESOME one handed catch with a defender on his shoulder pulling him down and bringing it in with one hand. Amazing catch.

We were getting beat pretty good and we were in peanut heaven STILL cheering my ass off til the very end. That day, a diehard was born, haha.

Never got to go to Three Rivers. My first game was at Heinz Field....my mom asked me to put up hers instead...

November 1983 Steelers lose to the Vikings. She loved Gary and thought Noll should have let him to tie it at the end of the game.

I was there too, but it's not a favorite memory - we lost another AFCC game
at home. Thanks Cowher. You suck in the post season.

I had lots of them. But the absolute best was the 1995 AFCC game
vs. Indy. After the disappointing loss to San Diego the year before,
and the way that game went down (Indy player standing up in the end zone
acting like he caught the TD to win the game) the place was bedlam. Everyone
was hugging each other - total strangers embracing each other, some in tears.
To finally make it back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1979 - wow. Of
course. O'Donnell ruined that game, but at least that group of marvelous players
finally won the AFC. Mills, Thigpen, Lloyd, Kirkland, Greene, Chad Brown, Woodson,
Lake, Dirt Dawson, Hastings, Kevin Henry, Steed, Lester, Seals, John Jackson,
Justin Strzelczyk, Searcy, John L Williams, Pee Wee....how did that team only make
one Super Bowl? Oh wait, our head coach sucked in the post season.

I miss 3 rivers, but it was a hard place to play both football and baseball. I bought some momento pieces from there before they tore it down. I have a Steelers football card with a piece of the turf on it, its rare but might not be worth a whole lot but to me its priceless....

The one thing I loved about 3RS vs. Heinze is the crowd noise. Heinze is
all new and nice, but the open end of the stadium ruins how loud the
crowd can be. 3RS really allowed for serious noise. No matter how much
the crowd wants to blast at Heinze, they will never be able to duplicate
the noise at 3RS. Fans cannot impose their will like we did at 3RS. It's
pretty disappointing. I would exchange that view of the city for a stadium
with no opened end so the fans could jack up the opposition like we used
to do at 3RS. I know the turf at 3R was brutal and nasty for the players, so
I am glad they don't have that turf any more, however, the natural surface
at Heinze ends up sucking as well, but in different ways. I really think they
should go to a sports turf, that is partial real grass with fake stuff added in
as well. Or, just have it all artificial like in other stadiums have, like Detroit.
