Default This is why Pgh & Philly are good every year

Because they _don't_ do things like this.

The Denver Broncos are expected to be able to agree on a restructured contract with FS Brian Dawkins once the lockout is over.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dawkins level of play dropped last year, so the Broncos could be seeing him as a coach for Rahim Moore and Quinton Carter as much as they see him as a potential starter again this season.
You don't hang on to the last few years of players nearly retired and
end up soaking up $ for once-great stars. You got to make the hard
decision and simply let aging players go. There _are_ some exceptions,
such as special players who provide leadership such as Ward and
Bettis and Farrior (but this should be his last year.) Teams who
stretch to sign former greats in their 30s - see Redskins - fail time
and time again. Pgh has let some players go who went on to produce
well for other teams (see Woodson, Greene, and very few others) but
by in large, avoiding paying big contracts to players in their 30s is
a working formula, along with drafting well.

Dawkins was a great, great player. He is a shell of his former self and
here Denver sits still looking to re-sign him. Their D is shit. They don't
need some 35-year-old safety to fix it. Imagine if Pgh re-signed Joey
Porter to big $? What a disaster that would have been. We would
have never seen Harrison's pure brilliance and would have over-paid
a guy who was not nearly as good as he once was.

Did you see NFLN top 10 worst free agent signings? At #1, they simply
listed the Skins at #1 all to themselves, as they have had so many
bad FA signings they need #1 all to themselves. It is mind-boggling
how many bad FA signings they've made. Hard to even grasp.

Albert Haynesworth, Bruce Smith, Deion, Jeff George and on and on.

Which brings up some interesting questions regarding Polamalu after this year.

Polamalu makes the defense and he still has plenty of good years left

We won't trade him...EVER. The Steelers even with injuries will not dump him off...at least yet. They will let him play a few more years and then re-look at the situation.

I can't believe it was brought up since most people on the board want to keep everyone on the roster till they are 40...But if injuries hit again..We cant afford to sign him to sit..

They are not going to cut him, He only missed 2 games last year and still had 7 ints. Why is it most people want to cut people off so soon.

True, 55, but many of the games he did play - including the SB - he
was clearly not whole, or any where close to it. He wasn't himself
in the SB, and that was one factor that led to us losing. I certainly
would give him 2011, no doubt. But if he is a repeat of 2010, I
would seriously consider moving on. My guess is he will
bounce back and play with less injuries this season so it is
a moot point.
