The Associated Press reports an attorney that represents New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson told a newspaper Benson is interested in moving the football team out of Louisiana and possibly to San Antonio, Albuquerque, or Los Angeles. Benson has been threatening to move the team while discussing negotiations with the State of Louisiana over the Saints' Louisiana Superdome lease. On Wednesday, May 11 the San Antonio Express-News quoted Benson attorney and friend Stanley Rosenberg as saying that Benson has a strong interest in moving the Saints out of New Orleans. Rosenberg also said he's received interest from outside parties to either buy the team or to persuade Benson to move the team. One offer exceeded $1 billion, Rosenberg said.

Interesting stuff.....Greedy owners now a days just pack up their team and leave....Can you say MONEY HUNGRY?

I personally beleive that a state should only be allowed 2 NFL franchises. This way we can spread it around a bit. California used to have four. Florida has three, New York has three. NO will move to L.A. then the league will won`t a team to replace the ain`ts , so there will be more expansion, and so on and so on. The league will get more watered down than it already is. Just my two cents

Haha...the few times I saw highlights from a Saints home game,the dome looked almost empty.I think if they were to be moved,very few people would care.

Well most talk now about the saints, is that there being moved to Texas.
The San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday that an attorney representing Tom Benson claimed the Saints owner is interested in relocating the franchise, possibly to San Antonio.

The paper quotes Stanley Rosenberg, Benson?s attorney and long-time friend, as saying that Benson has a strong interest in moving the team out of New Orleans. Rosenberg told the paper that Benson is considering invoking an exit clause in his lease with the State following the upcoming season.

Contacted by Eyewitness Sports Wednesday, Rosenberg declined comment when asked specifically if his quotes in the Express-News were accurate.

Benson recently called off negotiations with the State with the two sides standing about $100 million apart in a total package that would keep the team in New Orleans for another 20 years.

Governor Kathleen Blanco issued some stern comments following Benson?s decision to call off the negotiations, saying it isn?t easy to ask a rich person to give up some of their money and saying that she had appealed to his ?humanitarian? side.

Benson has refused any public comment since his statement and rebuffed reporters at the VooDoo's AFL game this weekend.

The Express-News story said San Antonio?s Alamodome would need about $200 million in work to bring it up to NFL standards.

The city?s two mayoral candidates were quoted as receiving news of the Saints considering a move ?enthusiastically.?
