This observation from another hater
Bill Parcells turns 70 today. ESPN has just hired Parcells for 15 appearances on air this season. He'll be on the first Sunday and again the next night, commenting on two teams he used to coach, New England and Miami, who open in South Florida. I hope he has a few more lines like the one he had on a radio show the other day with Keyshawn Johnson and Cris Carter, both of whom said they thought Plaxico Burress was going to have a big impact on the Jets. When they started talking about how many catches he'd have, Parcells said: "Whatever you guys say, I'll take the under.'' http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...n.week2/3.html |

More to the point, why does absolutely every free agent out there have to be signed by the Steelers? The Steelers, of all teams. It's one thing if you're a Washington fan, then sure, start dreaming and forming your wish list. But why bother contemplating how much this or that free agent will benefit the Steelers? It just ain't gonna happen.

i personally like plex and think he will have a good year but im glad we didnt sign him because we dont need another wr. we are stacked at the wr position. i dont understand how some of you can say brown is going to do great this year because he looks good in the preseason but then you insult someone for saying plex will do well because he had a great game. its nothing more then an opinion and everyone is entitled to there own

The same people that say the Steelers did nothing about the CB position this year even though they drafted two new ones and brought in two more last week are the ones who think we should have signed Plax. I am guessing that Plax does not make it to game 5 without some bad injury or hamstring pull due to his age and lack of playing over the past two years. I think the Cotchery signing was much better.

I'll reserve judgement on Plax until he faces
Ravens defense week 4 Patriots defense week 5 Chargers defense week 7 Patriots defense week 10 Eagles defense week 15 Basically until the end of the season. Even then there are too many schools of thought out there as to what a successful season will be for him. -Some think he needs to have a 1000 yard plus season a ton of touchdowns - Some (like myself) tend to think that if he has 800-900 yards plus some clutch touchdowns or key first downs he'll be a huge contribution - Some think that even if he has a fair regular season but is a non-factor in post-season it was worth it - Some could care less about regular season and just want him to show up in the post-season (see Sanchez and Braylon Edwards -both arguably not playing huge until postseason) |

I wouldn't put him above Cotchery at this point and that is like comparing apples to oranges anyways. Two completely different types of receivers and situations. We had a better receiving core without Cotchery. The Jets needed Plax way more than we did. Cotchery just puts us over the top.
Just look at the tape - you would have thought the Jets just won the AFC championship over the Bengals the way their entire team (Sanchez, Rex and pretty much the entire broadcasting crew) celebrated when Plex caught the TD pass. It was the first time in 2 plus years they've had someone who could beat the blitz and having someone to potentially rely on other than Holmes. We already had a blitz beater in Wallace, a reliable vet in Hines, early bloomers in Brown and Sanders, not to mention a wild card in Randle El. Not even talking about Heath Miller either. Now we might have a second reliable tight end and Cotchery? When was the last time the Jets had a meaningful tight end? They were able to ground and pound, but as soon as a team took that away they were done. |
