Default If BMAC goes down..

Keenan Lewis comes in...so they like him more then Gay?..Will we see more Lewis in the Nickel? Or do they want to keep Gay there full time..?

Is it wrong for me to actually hope Bmac gets hurt now?

I think they like Gay in the nickel package, and I don't think that changes if BMAC goes down. Lewis would likely be brought in but if he's not %100, I could see Brown there.

lewis' skillset is more geared toward an outside corner more so than a nickel

The weak spot for the Steelers secondary is not who replaces an injured corner. It's when accurate QB's spread them out, neutralizing our linebackers.

hopefully won't be as much of a weakness this year, having more corners who are ready to play. Lewis has proved he can at least be a capable backup or #2

Both starting corners would need to go down for Gay to move outside for anything more than a breather here or there.

Tomlin made clear just yesterday that he liked Gay's intelligence specifically in slot coverage, and likened him more to a safety than a corner. It's basically a different position he's playing that what Lewis would be doing.

I wouldn't go appointing Lewis as the savior of defensive backfield any time soon. Apparently he barely made the team this year. It came down to Butler or Lewis and for whatever reason they went with Lewis. I can't remember if that little tidbit came from a Kaboly or Bouchette piece, but it shouldn't be that hard to find.

I'm not, I'm just saying he's a lot more ready than last year. If he can just be decent enough, having him as the #4 or #5 db and knowing where he needs to be against a spread attack, then that will make our defense better than they were last year, if that's saying much. Last year we didn't have anyone after gay, and would have to put in a special teamer in there (madison) to cover extra wr's. that lack of depth probably hurt us the most.

it seems like now we have capable corners waiting in the wings, and at the very least if he can give us better defenders against the #3/4 receievers then it'll be a definite upgrade.

I'm sure another year under Lewis' belt will help too some extent. However, what I believe will help more than anything is if Mcfadden can stay healthy. People love to rag on him, but forget or refuse too acknowledge that he was among the walking wounded for the whole season. Heck he had to go to the LR in the 1st quarter of the SB.
