Random Thoughts on PGH vs Ravens
Did anyone notice the Steeler's defense suddenly start hitting harder and playing with more intensity after the big scrum and fight? There were some big hits on Raven's players after that moment of the game. Their intensity was suddenly there. What it means I don't know but maybe there is hope yet.
Flacco and his offense should have scored a lot more in the 2nd half considering the amount of turnovers. The Steeler's defense which should have been dead tired only allowed 1 TD in the 2nd half.
I could swear I saw Aaron Smith being pushed out of gaps, something that never happened in the past.
Roethlisberger seems to be regressing in his reading of defenses. Going back to the Super Bowl Ben has been throwing some bad balls into a lot of coverage. The older he gets the less effective his street ball style of play will become. He should be reading defenses a lot better at this stage of his career. Only 5 interceptions last year total though so maybe he is just trying to do too much?
What is with all the throws to receivers at the line of scrimmage? One worked once to Mike Wallace but the other 3 or 4 times all it did was gain 1 or 2 yards and the receivers were pummeled by Ravens swarming on them. Nice way to get a guy hurt for a 1-3 yard gain. A pass like that is good on 3rd and short, not 1st and 10 unless the DB is so far back it is a easy gain.
With the supposed weakness of the Ravens being their secondary how is it every time we play them we throw more in front of their LBs instead of over their heads?
Where were the deep throws? Most of the offense centered around throwing into the front seven of the Ravens not over it. Teams will beat the Ravens this year by throwing over the linebackers.
McKinney sure looked good out there, at the very least better then Jonathan Scott. Let's hope Marcus Gilbert progresses to the point of starting by mid season.
A lot of time off between the last preseason game they played and this one hopefully had something to do with the bad performance. They will get better because it can't be worse.
Looks like there was a bounty on Hines Ward in that game. A conscious effort by the Ravens to put a big strong guy on him during most routes. They really have been planning for this game a long time if they were down to game planning Ward to that extent.
How do you not spy Ray Rice coming out of the backfield to catch the ball?
Not a total destruction of the O Line. Not a lot of penalties by them. Early in the game very good run blocking, and Ben for the most part had time to throw.
Ike Taylor dominated Lee Evans.
The receivers looked good.
It's only the 1st game.
that's about it......

The wideouts did not look good...Wallace got most of his yardage after the Ravens were backing off. Hines did well..Sanders and Brown disappeared.
