How? What's the vet minimum for someone with his years of service? It's got to be near or even beyond the $750k they have right now. This smells like smoke to me.

Max Starks visited #steelers tonite and it looks as though he will be signed. Someone will be waived.

no doubt it would be an incentive laden contract. theres no telling how his surgically repaired neck is gonna hold up under live fire.

pretty sure the vet minimum is now $860,000. keep in mind a 4th of the season is already in the books and the contract would not be guaranteed. he would essentially be a week by week employee.

assuming he would play the 12 remaining games- take $860,000/16 and multiply it by twelve (or 860,000X.75) and viola! we are under the cap!

i am almost certain this is why it took 4 weeks to sign him.

Max Starks may not be a franchise LT but compared to Jonathan Scott or Trai Essex he looks like a freaking HOFer

I don't care id we have $0.01 cap space left if we sign him, we need him (or at least a semi-reliable tackle) if we want to have any hope for the rest of the season. The offensive line is on a whole new level of suck this year. I've never seen a quarterback have such minimal time in the pocket as Ben this year.

And I really hope Gilbert keeps his job at RT over Essex or Scott, he may be a rookie and he'll have his mistakes but I still think he's a better option there.

agreed that gilbert needs to stay at RT. nothing against him, but im sure he will end up getting injured at some point anyways, THEN one of the other scrubs can step in.

i also dont think starks will be along term fix (and by long term i mean longer than 4 weeks. dudes a ticking injury time bomb.
