Default Man attacked for wearing a Steelers jersey

By Heather MacWilliams http://t.co/58VGjkj8

9:24 p.m. EDT, October 7, 2011

Indianapolis

A local man was attacked because of what he was wearing.

"He went out for a bike ride and he was on his way home and he said some guy pulled up in a blue truck and said you need to take off that Pittsburgh jersey, you should be wearing a colts jersey and you need to go to hell," the victimís wife said.

What happened next had the victim, who doesnít want to be identified for fear of his life, riding for his life.

"The next thing that car was coming at him, he was trying to get away then he was airborne."

You could still the tire tracks Friday, from the truck which made an abrupt turn in order to run the victim down.

The next thing the victim knew, he was in Methodist Hospital suffering from severe injuries.

"His chin was broken; his jaw was dislocated on the left side so he has a plate in his chin. He has stitches in his head and under his nose.

"He has scars on his legs and his hands; you can't even touch his hands. It hurts just from touch. He has gravel in them too," his wife said.

His wife has a message for that Colts fan.

"For you to do something like that, you should think about the people in your family. If something like this happened in your family what would you do?"

She said she is actually praying for the suspect because she said when you are simply willing to take a man's life, it's no longer about football.

"We wear different jerseys, it doesn't matter. I could have lost my husband"

The suspect is still at large. We was driving a light pickup truck at 1 p.m. near the intersection of Madison and Stop Road 1. Anyone with any information is urged to call IMPD at (317) 262-TIPS

This is sad! I can't believe people actually take it this far. It just shows how some fans can hate a team or fanbase so much that they don't care who they can hurt. smh I wish the Fan a speedy recovery I hope they found this asshole.

I hate fans like that; just like those two Dodgers fans that beat that Giants fan into a coma. It is sports and you can love your team without going over board.

Wow, when I read the title I figured Baltimore or Boston, not Indy. That's horrible, I can't believe somebody would run somebody over with a car over a jersey. I hope the victim has a speedy recovery and hopefully someone will do society a favor and put a .45 up the suspects ass!

I live in Indiana and many of my friends are Colts fans. They get on my nerves, but nothing more. But when you actually go into Indy, I believe that the Colts have some of the trashiest fans in the league. Some of the things I've heard and seen in the city and in the stadium is appalling. And this is going there as a neutral third party not rooting against the Colts. This type of behavior is shocking though, prayers go out to the fan and his family, and hopefully the police can find the jackass who did it.

Sheesh. Baltimore? Really? I'd love to hear what you're basing that on.

However misguided you are about Baltimore, I pretty much agree with everything else you said. There are idiots everywhere.

I think it was WickedSteel who ran the guy over. The Steelers' reign is over, he just wants everyone to understand that.

Hah. I live just outside of Baltimore. Many Ravens fans are the rudest, brash, self-righteous football fans I have ever encountered. True, every fan base has idiots, but many Ravens fans are out of control. Way out of proportion with other fan bases.

To put things in context, my in laws, who are die hard Ravens fans, wore Ravens to the cheap seats at Pittsburgh last year. And guess what, they were treated with respect. They even made the comment that they were surprised, and they would never wear a Pittsburgh jersey to a game in Baltimore.

You may be a Ravens fan with respect for the game and other fans, but you are in the minority. Have you been to Ravens forum? They hate on each other, other teams, and especially the Steelers. Name calling, trolling, and outright hostility. Very little of that in a Steelers forum; some but not to the extent of the Baltimore forums.

This^

And don't misunderstand me ratbird extreme, I'm not trying to lump you in with anybody like that, but Baltimore has the second highest murder/manslaughter rate in the country, and if your running somebody over with you truck, your trying to kill them. Combine the 2nd highest murder rate in the country with the general hatred between Steelers and Ravens fans, and the fact that a lot of the Ravens players act as if it's ok to behave like a thug, and you get Baltimore being the most obvious choice for something like that to happen.
