Default In Times Of Crisis - Tailgate!

I cannot decide if this excerpt from the NY Times story on Ben's injury is funny or disturbing

His surgery began in midafternoon and continued for eight and a half hours while a vigil of sorts ? reporters standing next to television trucks and fans, many in Steelers regalia, sitting in lawn chairs ? was kept outside Mercy Hospital. By early evening, a few fans outside the hospital began cooking food on a small barbecue.

I can see the vigil, but who brings a grill to a hospital? :)
