Question Patriots 4th Quarter TD Drive

Any of you analytical heads able to break down what happened on the Patriots' 4th quarter TD drive? Did Woodley's absence hurt that much? Maybe the D just let off the gas pedal too early? I don't see Flacco being able to pull a drive out like that next week, but it still had me concerned that the D held Brady in check all game except for that drive, where it looked a little too easy... and just about the only real glaring negative in a very solid game.

Brady almost always gets a decent one in at the end and yes, Woodley being out is huge, especially with Harrison already out. I'm not worried about it, it was only the second real drive they had and it was the only real drive they had that resulted in a TD, against Brady, that's excellent. Next week we should have Woodley, Keisel, and Harrison rushing Flacco, he may not make it all game.

To be honest, I think it was all those things.

It was at an odd moment time-wise where you think: [should we let them make plays and eat clock? Should we go for the sack and risk a big play along with it?, We got this thing! We're gonna beat the Patsies]

It's hard not to be amped in a situation like that and it's easy to over-play coverages and such.

If that happened with just a 7 point lead I'd be foaming at the mouth. But with the cush we had, I think guys were thinking that even if they score we still have this game and whether they should have been thinking that or not, in this particular case I'll spot them an early celebration...

Just don't let that happen again!

One of the best (if not the best) qb's in the league, a great hc, a defense playing a little softer...

I thought it was interesting how the Pats ended up burning so much clock by not challenging what seemed to be a TD reception by Gronkowski.

I noticed this as well and thought the ball was spotted poorly.

Well, when Woodley left, the whole tempo went down just a bit. Most of our rush defense was engineered by our defensive line, whilst our backers tended to cover more regularly. With less pressure on Brady, he was given that extra bit of time he needed to make plays, resulting in a closer game.

With Woodley in their all game, I think the result may have been different. Woodley left the game having already garnered two sacks. You also have to take into consideration that we didn't have Farrior in the mix today, and that Harrison has been out for weeks. Farrior led our team in tackles going into this one, and Harrison is, well, Harrison.

So. The Patriots saw a completely different team today from what they saw last year, and they couldn't handle it. We fired heavily on both our defensive and offensive cylinders, and came away with the W. Next week we kill some birdies!

Translation: The Patriots* didn't have any film on the Steelers and couldn't win because of it.
