Steelers are failing to finish teams off because they are unable to score TD's in the redzone.
The Cards, Pats, and Colts, and Jag games should have been over at half time if the Steelers could have scored TD's instead of FG's or just scored period. This is one glaring aspect of the game where the Steelers must improve to advance far into the playoffs. You just get this sense that the Steelers are going to get a fg in the redzone, while their opponents get tds. In fact, 40% of the steelers touchdowns have come from outside the redzone.

Once the Steelers get within five yards of the goal line, they've not scored td's about 50% of the time. This is a shock. This has to be automatic.

I agree 100% but I think that will change as time goes by.

We have one of the youngest crops of receivers (if not THE youngest) in the league as well as having two of the oldest in Hines and Miller.
The young guys are still learning the finer points of the red zone (which takes time) while the older guys are more predictable and thus more defensible so we're in a kind of "middle ground" right now.

The good news is that the young guys seem to be learning very quickly and have the confidence to execute in a short-field situation and once they "get it", I think we'll be racking up more TD's than we'll know what to do with.

I think that it's more a case of having an embarrassment of riches in the passing game that we never really had before and it's going to take some time to figure out just how to use everyone.

It's kind of like wishing for a garage full of tools and then actually getting them and trying to figure out what to build with them.

As problems go, it's actually a good one to have!

agree with FanSince72, the chemistry of our young offense will improve over time, which will make our redzone offense more efficient.

with that said, remember we are a defensive team still, we don't have to be uber perfect on offense. This team still relies on the defense to win games

I've noticed that when the game's on the line, Ben's as good as it get's within the twenty. But when we've got even the smallest lead, we fail to punch it in more often than not. I'm not sure why this is, but it's been happening for a while now. Hell, I recall this being a problem as far back as Ben's first year.

But, either way, when it's close, or when the game is on the line, we seem to get the job done. As long as that remains the case, i'll pay less attention to our redzone stats, and hope they find a way to improve on it in practice.

In those situations, with the short field , most teams dropp back and cover and only rush 3 or 4. One thing that wopuld help is keeping a back in the backfield, instead of emptying the backfield. The threat of run will hold the backers and give more room for the recievers to roam.

seem to do better throwing it short of the end zone and running it in instead of throwing it inside the endzone. should use Miller more in those situations.

we definitely need to get better inside the 20 and fast. It's the reason we're not nailing games shut and taking it down to the final seconds in what seems like every game.
We no doubt lag behind other teams in this area. We might be scary good if we could perform this one thing.

The Steelers are not the best team in the red zone: breaking news. Hopefully it improves, but merely restating the problem, as has been done probably 100 times on this forum alone this season, is kind of getting monotonous.
