Default Pittsburgh Steelers team report: Roethlisberger says sore shoulder won't affect him

Pittsburgh Steelers team report: Roethlisberger says sore shoulder won't affect him

PITTSBURGH — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his throwing shoulder when he tried to dive for a touchdown in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, but he said it won’t affect his ability to play Sunday against the Bengals.

Roethlisberger said he bruised his rotator cuff when he stretched his arm to reach for the end zone on an 8-yard scramble in the fourth quarter. Despite some soreness, Roethlisberger has not missed practice.

Roethlisberger has been one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league, throwing for 1,056 yards and six TDs in the past three games and 12 touchdowns in the past five games.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Hines Ward returned to full practice Thursday and said he will play against the Bengals.

Ward wanted to return against the Ravens after he was hit in the head on a tackle by Ray Lewis in the second quarter. But the Steelers medical staff would not let him do so because he experienced concussion-like symptoms.

Notes: Backup nose tackle Steve McLendon played so well when Casey Hampton and Chris Hoke were injured that he has moved ahead of Hoke on the depth chart. Hampton has returned from his injury, but Hoke was inactive against the Ravens even though he is fully recovered from a neck injury. McLendon came to camp bigger and stronger this year, allowing him to play more stout at the point of attack.

No question Ben gets beat up and no question he is not bashful about specifying what is hurting - sometimes I wish he would just play on without specifying the injury

If you know the injury isn't bad enough to slow you down, why broadcast it to everyone?? Now the opposing team knows your sore spot. Hey, what's the red dot on Ben's shoulder?. It's a target.

Teams are targeting his throwing arm/shoulder as it is. Players are being told, because of his strength to tackle his throwing arm.

Roethlisberger has had very good protection since Starks has been back in the lineup.

Would you expect anything less??? Having a damn good year, taking a team on his back, I would say teams are trying to take him out. But this Sunday, the Steelers aren't the ones going into the game with a rookie QB. Look for a heavy dose of the run game (I hope)!!!!!!!
