Batch has something to prove
Photo Gallery click to enlarge Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch works with offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt Christopher Horner/Tribune-Review click to enlarge Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch Christopher Horner/Tribune-Review Tools Print this article E-mail this article Subscribe to this paper Larger / Smaller Text By Joe Bendel TRIBUNE-REVIEW Friday, June 3, 2005 By watching him move around the Steelers practice fields, you would never know that Charlie Batch had drills burrowing through his bones and blood clots created to help restore lost cartilage in his left knee. And you would definitely never know that this procedure -- known as microfracture surgery -- occurred just 10 months ago. "He looks good," offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt said of Batch, who is looking to regain a roster spot after sustaining the season-ending knee injury Aug. 13 at training camp. Batch, of course, could have taken the easy way out. He could have hung up his No. 16 jersey and called it quits, which crossed his mind last August when he woke up after the operation and the surgeon told him he would be out for an extended period. here's the rest |

His attitude is good, thats for sure, and he thinks he's definately got a shot, so in his eyes atleast, its not as cut n dry and keeping maddox and st pierre.

I love hometown players, there seems to be more to gain for them

I don't get the love affair with Batch. I can't even remember seeing him play in a Steeler uniform. I can recall several great Tommy momments(including getting injured a couple times in games) and St. Pierre running the show in the Buffalo game. I could care less about skills and contracts. Tommy and St. Pierre have at least proven themselves to be Steelers in my book.
More homework... Batch (3 years exp) 4/8 47 yards 68.2 RTG St. Pierre(2 years exp) 0/1 0 yards 39.6 RTG either way they are playing back up so lets hope they don't play anyway. I just don't see Batch as being so above St. Pierre.

I`ll be honest, I like Batchs NFL exp. Not his Steelers exp. I`m not totally sold on Batch, St.Pierre, or Maddox for that matter. I like Maddox`s smartness, and his slightly above average arm, but thats about it. I would like to see a descent vet brought in.

I agree with Cleve. I don't like any of the QB's behind Ben. Tommy had his years... let's get another vet in here to help Ben out... although it may take one more year before someone is available.

But cowher and colbert like his experience in the system and his willingness to be a team player and a mentor to Ben last year. I'd kinda think they'll keep tommy around as long as they can.. but we'll see. I can definately see your point cleve, non of the backups behind ben strike alot of confidence in me either. |
