Default Steelers vs. Chiefs: Inside the Game

Steelers vs. Chiefs: Inside the Game

By Mike Bires mbires@timesonline.com | Posted: Sunday, November 27, 2011 9:46 am

STEELERS (7-3) vs. CHIEFS (4-6)

8:20 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium (76,412) in Kansas City, Mo.

NBC (locally WPXI, Channel 11)

Al Michaels, play-by-play; Cris Collinsworth, analysis; Michele Tafoya, sideline reporter

With the Ravens (8-3) holding on to their lead in the AFC North with a win over the 49ers (9-2) on Thanksgiving Day, the Steelers (7-3) want to keep pace. Remember, because of their sweep of the Steelers, the Ravens hold the tie-breaker edge. If both teams finish with the same regular-season record, Baltimore wins the division and Pittsburgh enters the playoffs as a wild card.

4-5: That's the Steelers' record in their last nine trips to Arrowhead Stadium dating back to 1992 when Bill Cowher left his post as the Chiefs' defensive coordinator to become coach of the Steelers.

LB LaMarr Woodley (hamstring), who still leads the Steelers with 9 sacks despite missing the past two games, is listed as questionable. In the NFL, questionable means a player has a 50/50 chance of playing, but there is no reason to believe Woodley will play. He hasn't been a full practice participant since getting hurt on the Oct. 30 game against the Patriots. Also questionable are LB Stevenson Sylvester (knee) and WR Arnaz Battle (hamstring). They aren't expected to play.

Listed as probable are QB Ben Roethlisberger (thumb), WR Emmanuel Sanders (knee), LB James Harrison (back) and SS Troy Polamalu (ribs). They will play.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have been coping all season long with injuries that put four prominent starters on injured reserve: RB Jamaal Charles (knee), TE Tony Moeacki (knee), QB Matt Cassel (hand) and SS Eric Berry (knee). Tonight, starting LG Ryan Lilja won't play (concussion). Two other starters are listed as questionable: DE Glenn Dorsey (knee) and SS Jon McGraw (shoulder).

"We are going to do everything we can to make sure all of our guys stay in the game plan. It's my job to manage that. Everybody has a way of contributing. Hines is still a great player in the red zone and on third downs. We have something for everybody, we think. There are not enough footballs for all of them. But whoever gets open is going to get it."

-- Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians on the role of veteran wide receiver Hines Ward, who lost his starting job last week to second-year pro Antonio Brown

The Steelers are favored by 10 points.

Two years ago, the Steelers were upset in K.C by a Chiefs team that finished 4-12. But there will not be an upset tonight. These Chiefs are banged up and can easily be routed. Check out the scores of four of their losses -- 41-7 to Buffalo, 48-3 to Detroit, 31-3 to Miami and 34-3 last week to New England. It will be more of the same tonight ...

Steelers 27, Chiefs 10
