Default Woodley goes through full workout

Woodley goes through full workout
Mike Bires mbires@timesonline.com | Posted: Wednesday, November 30, 2011 11:00 pm

PITTSBURGH - It was hard for LaMarr Woodley to keep a straight face as the media grilled him.

After all, coach Mike Tomlin popped his head into the scrum as he made his way through the locker room. While staring directly at Woodley, Tomlin listened intently as the Steelers' star linebacker answered questions about his injured hamstring.

Knowing that Tomlin doesn't want players talking to the press about injuries, Woodley didn't say anything conclusive.

"I'm day to day," he said with a sheepish smile.

"I'm getting there," he added moments later. "I'm improving every day."

"We'll see about that," he said when asked if he'll play Sunday against Cincinnati.

But while Woodley didn't say much after Wednesday's practice, what he did at practice spoke volumes about his chances of playing for the first time since he pulled his hamstring in the Oct. 30 game against New England.

For the first time in a month, he went through an entire practice as a full participant and said he enjoyed being back with the first-team defense.

"That's the most I've done," he said.

Based on how Woodley held up at practice Wednesday, the Steelers (8-3) do expect him to be back in the starting lineup for their AFC North Division showdown against the Bengals (7-4).

In other injury news of note:

- Strong safety Troy Polamalu did not practice. He was knocked out of the 13-9 win in Kansas City this past Sunday with concussion-like symptoms. Polamalu didn't speak to the media Wednesday. He was not in the locker room for the interview sessions before or after practice.

On Tuesday, Tomlin said Polamalu wasn't experiencing any more concussion symptoms but would have to pass further tests before he's permitted to play again.

- Center Maurkice Pouncey also missed practice Wednesday. He had to leave the game in Kansas City with a stomach virus. However, Pouncey is expected to play against the Bengals.
