Default Steelers, Browns play poor brand of football

Steelers, Browns play poor brand of football

By Scott Brown
Friday, December 9, 2011

The Browns and Steelers didn't exactly put on a clinic through the first 30 minutes Thursday night at Heinz Field. The teams combined for three turnovers, seven punts and seven penalties in the first two quarters. Receiver Hines Ward and tight end Heath Miller each lost a fumble when the Steelers were driving. The Browns entered last night having lost 14 of their past 15 games against the Steelers.

>> The Steelers signed Damon Cromartie-Smith from their practice squad yesterday, and the safety made his NFL debut. The Steelers also signed linebacker Mortty Ivy, a Gateway High and West Virginia graduate, to their 53-man roster, and he played in his second game of the season. Cromartie-Smith made the first tackle of the game, stopping Josh Cribbs after a 22-yard kickoff return. The two roster spots became available when the Steelers placed nose tackle Chris Hoke (neck) and running back Jonathan Dwyer (foot) on injured reserve.

>> Right guard Ramon Foster started last night for the Steelers, four days after sustaining a low ankle sprain. Quarterback Dennis Dixon, offensive tackle Jamon Meredith and defensive end Al Woods were healthy scratches. They joined outside linebackers LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) and Chris Carter (hamstring) and receivers Emmanuel Sanders (foot) and Arnaz Battle (hamstring) among the Steelers' inactives.

>> Troy Polamalu's first interception of the season gave him 28 for his career, tying the strong safety with Jack Lambert for ninth on the Steelers' all-time list. ... Steelers defensive end Ziggy Hood left in the first half with a groin injury. ... Browns tight end Ben Watson was knocked out of the game in the first half with a head injury. ... Receiver Mike Wallace went over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season.

for i'd say a minimum of 50-60% of the game, that was the worst, dumbest display of football i've seen in a few years. On both sides. For a minute, i thought some of our offense, if you looked closely under their helmets, might be a local High School football team.
The coaches have a lot of work to do this week. Thank goodness we have 10 days to get ready, and not 7.

3 turnovers against a good team will lose you the game. 3 turnovers against a terrible team will make it closer than it should be - hence the results
MacReady: Beaver pics - don't think we're in much shape to do anything about this thread
Childs: Well, what do we do?
MacReady: Why don't we just . . .wait here and post for a little while longer . . . see what happens?
