Default Five Steelers are named to Pro Bowl team

Five Steelers are named to Pro Bowl team

By Mark Kaboly
Wednesday, December 28, 2011

The Steelers on Tuesday had their highest number of players make a Pro Bowl since their Super Bowl-winning season of 2008.

Safety Troy Polamalu, receiver Mike Wallace and center Maurkice Pouncey were selected as starters; quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made it as a backup to the Patriots' Tom Brady; and Antonio Brown was named as a kick/punt returner in a voting process that includes players, coaches and fans.

It marked the 11th consecutive season and 20th time in the past 23 seasons that multiple Steelers made the annual all-star game. At least three Steelers have been selected to the Pro Bowl every season since 2002. Six Steelers made it in 2008.

Linebacker James Harrison was selected as a first alternate, while safety Ryan Clark and linebacker LaMarr Woodley were named second alternates.

Here is a breakdown of the Steelers' five primary selections:

Polamalu: The free safety is making his seventh Pro Bowl in nine years. Polamalu is second on the team with 88 tackles to go with a sack and an interception.

Pouncey: The second-year center is 2 for 2 when it comes to Pro Bowls. He has missed the past two games with an ankle injury.

Wallace: The speedy receiver is making his first trip to the Pro Bowl after a breakout year. He leads the team with 71 receptions for 1,182 yards and eight touchdowns. He averages 16.6 yards per catch.

Roethlisberger: He is making his second trip to the Pro Bowl. Roethlisberger has thrown for 3,856 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions despite missing a game because of injury.

Brown: The kick/punt ace is making his first trip in his second year in the league. A sixth-round pick out of Central Michigan, Brown broke the team's single-season record for all-purpose yards with 2,048. He is second in the AFC in kick-return average and fourth in punt returns. Brown also has 63 catches for 1,018 yards and two touchdowns.

Cornerback Ike Taylor was snubbed despite allowing only 2.7 receptions and 30.8 yards per game while giving up two touchdowns this season. He has 42 tackles and two interceptions.

The Pro Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 29 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

Completely agree. What does this man have to do? He has been a shutdown corner all year. Without his skills, this team would have lost at least three more games this year. This guy never gets any love. I don't get it.
What may man within him hide when angel on the outward side
