Ok.

So you would like people to compare Omar to QB's (presumably) playing the NFL right now - but not Tom brady - any other QB's we should avoid comparison with?

Sorry, about getting off topic. I got on my soapbox. But Omar like I said has alot of the same skills as Ben Roethlisberger to me. Now other people might have different views on Omar Jacobs then me. I'm a big fan of the Mac conference. Thats the conference that has produced NFL QB's in Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, Ben Roethlisberger, Charlie Fyre and Omar Jacobs. Omar had a very good college career like all those guys.

Omar has as much talent and upside as those guys. One reason he slipped in this past draft was he injured his shoulder last year. But Omar had a great TD/INT ratio the two years. I think his ratio was 67/11. I really think Omar can develop into a solid NFL QB. But he will be setting behind Ben as of now and in the future.

Enjoyed that.

Its cool when someone can admit a dislike for a team/ player and still give them their due.

It will be interesting to see how AV looks this year - he missed a few potentially clutch ones last year - a couple in the Denver game if I remember right.

NM
Exactly he missed a few in the Bronco's game, and did they beat the Bronco's? Negative, by no means do I think Tom Brady is a bad player, but he didn't win those rings on his own. I just don't think it's a stretch to compare Omar Jacobs to what Tom Brady was at the same point in his career. I'm not saying Jacobs is going to have 3 rings, I'm just saying they were both dogged on in their respective drafts.

Who does Omar Jacobs compare to? Who the hell knows. There are enough first, second, third, and fourth round busts from the last five years littering up the NFL right now, Omar probably compares to any one of them. Guys with all the upside in the world in the few weeks before their first training camp. Guys who were "can't miss".

It's tough to make it in the NFL. But you knew that already. Who is a fifth round kid from Bowling Green like? Nobody.

DON'T MISTAKE THIS FOR ME NOT LIKING THIS KID! I saw his pre-draft highlight film and he has great potential. But there are too many lousy guys who came to this league with great potential.

And Brady might (MIGHT) be the only QB in this league that I'd rather have than Roethlisberger. He's smart, talented, tough, and he plays to win. AND he's a model citizen. There's nothing to not like except that he plays for (cough cough) the Patriots.

Very good points. Trust me I'm not saying Omar will become a very good NFL QB. Just saying he alot of talent and upside. Hey thats the fun part of sports always comparing players to other players.

I was knocked out by that highlight film, but worried about his arm motion and whether a) he throws from high enough up to succeed and b) will he be able to throw that way for an entire season, and by extension an entire career. Will the coaches try to change his motion, or accept it? That will be interesting to see. If they change it will he be as good? Or maybe better?

Because of the question marks, the player I'd compare him to most right now, honestly, is Vince Young! I think we got a guy with the same potential and the same questions, but instead of gambling the second pick we gambled our 5th round pick! They aren't the same style players, but our guy has the same potential, IMO. Plus we get to let him season instead of tossing him in right away.

Omar is a really great guy to have as a project. You never know. Great guys get hurt and never come back sometimes. Last year: Pennington never came back, Culpepper went down, McNabb, Palmer... heck I don't have to name them all. Heck, Brady was nobody until Bledsoe went down. Bledsoe was the franchise guy. I've always liked Drew, still do. Omar just might be that "savior" guy, if and after Ben's knees get operated on for the 4th time 3 years from now.

Or, he could be Gus Frerotte.

No offense to all the Jacob fans, but if he really has so much upside hows come nobody jumped on him??? There were plenty of teams that needed a backup, especially the two ohio teams!

OMAR will be the second string QB after 2007. He Is one hell of a acurate passer. I think he is definetely very very smart with the ball, which is like Manning. But he is built and runs like Ben. So I would say BENNING........HAHAHAHA

Any Steelers fan that cant acknowledge how great Brady is as a football player is living under a rock. That New England game last yeat was one of the best regular season games I have seen in years. Of cousre, the Chargers game was even better because of the outcome.

To the topic at hand- I hope Jacobs has a long and uneventful career in Pittsburgh.
