Polamalu, Pouncey, Roethlisberger ready to go

By Mark Kaboly
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Saturday, December 31, 2011

Maurkice Pouncey will play Sunday against Cleveland, while Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu likely are to join him in the starting lineup for the regular-season finale.

Pouncey (ankle) went through a full practice for a third consecutive day Friday and said he will start against the Browns.

"I know for a fact that I am playing," Pouncey said.

Roethlisberger worked through his third consecutive day of practice without any complications from a high ankle sprain and is expected to start Sunday. However, he wouldn't confirm his status after practice yesterday.

"I don't know," Roethlisberger said. "We'll see. Go ask Mike Tomlin."

Polamalu (knee) practiced yesterday for the first time this week, indicating that he also will start Sunday.

Those three, along with linebacker James Harrison (neck), wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot) and Mike Wallace (ankle), are listed as probable on the injury report.

Running back Mewelde Moore (knee) and guard Doug Legursky (shoulder) have been ruled out. Linebacker LaMarr Woodley is listed as doubtful and is unlikely to play.

>> Polamalu said that he isn't approaching Sunday's game as a fortunate opportunity to earn the division crown and a first-round bye in the playoffs despite losing both games to AFC North rival and division co-leader Baltimore. "If we would've taken care of business, we wouldn't be looking at these circumstances," Polamalu said. "The most important this is for us to win this game to give ourselves a best shot." A win against Cleveland coupled with a loss by Baltimore at Cincinnati would give the Steelers the division crown outright and a first-round bye for the second consecutive year.

>> Ike Taylor said he has no plans on scoreboard watching at Cleveland Browns Stadium. "I ain't got time for it," Taylor said. "I don't even know if they are going to be showing it in Cleveland. I don't want to know anything. Just shoot me back to Pittsburgh after the new year."

>> With Woodley unlikely to play Sunday, linebacker Jason Worilds will get his seventh start of the season. "It is a good opportunity for me to go out there and take another step forward," Worilds said. "I am looking forward to it." Worilds has career highs in tackles (34) and sacks (three). "My season has been productive," Worilds said. "I went from playing strictly on special teams to starting on defense. I think I have taken steps forward."
