from one gazillionaire to another. I have never studied the Gates' Foundation. What excactly is entailed, who really reaps the benefits of all that money? I think it would have aided many people along the gulf coast during Katrina and even now as well as all the hurricane victims of the recent past. Unless many, many real humans IN THE UNITES STATES are reaping the benefits of all that money, it honestly turns my stomach.

the bill and melinda gates foundation is the largest philanthropy charity in the world. while it seems unbelievable and almost disgusting on the surface, it is trully amazing. the money is going towards stuff like wiping out aids in africa, vaccines, cures for diseases, building librarys, americain schools (gates would like to see every child in america with computer access (and by the likes of recent trolls on this board we can see his plan is succeeding).

gates is gonna leave his day to day post as the head of microsoft in the next 2 years to focus on the foundation. he has said it is his goal to give away the bulk of the wealth he has earned. buffett is one smart man. he said bill could do more with that charity than he could from 6 feet under.

the wierd thing is, is that someone could give $37 bil away like its nothing.

The Gates foundation has 2 main focuses as far as I now. One involves world health issues. The other focus is on education and libraries in the US.

The health focus has incredible potential. A well organized group with practically unlimited resources and that is not bound by governmental tie ups has the potential to eradicate some diseases off the face of the earth.

With the schools they are funding a lot of non-traditional school systems and trying to evaluate what can be done to improve our public schools. The library mission tends to focus on bring information technology to underserved areas.

He has 2 kids also (buffett) and I think they each got only a billion apiece. Poor babies will be in the welfare lines. Yeah I heard Gates' announcement on tv and he did give a rather vague rundown of what the foundation was AIDS in Africa, etc so I did vaguely know what it was all about but I think you clinched it when you said almost disgusting on the surface,

I actually find it refreshing to see that some of these billionaires realize that you cant take it with you....do some good with it before you die...because once youre gone...all that money goes to the vultures.

Kudos to him and Bill Gates...for giving something back

The "Ambridge Fund" wouldn't mind a small contribution.

I heard Gates interviewed about a decade ago. He said that he had been reading a lot about Carnegie and that Gates now wanted to model his life after Carengie, whoseseem philosophy was to spend the first half of his life amassing wealth and the second half giving it all away.

Gates actions seem to show he is a man of his word. I wonder if his library focus is a tip of the hat to Carnegie.

Gates parents were big philanthropists. His mom was actually the head of the local United Way. I am normally not a big fan of that much $ being concentrated to so few people. But this is a case where I truly believe the world will be a better place because this ungodly amount of money ended up with some people who are committed to using it for good.
