Default Keisel, Hampton & Starks To Have Surgery?

Further evidence the Steelers were running out of players even if they had won yesterday

Tomlin: Keisel, Hampton and Starks candidates for surgery

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said today at his season-ending news conference that nose tackle Casey Hampton and offensive tackle Max Starks have ACL injuries and defensive lineman Brett Keisel has a severe groin injury. All three are being evaluated today by team doctors and are potential candidates for surgery.

Tomlin also said surgery is a possibility for Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey, who did not play in the final game of the season for the second year in a row because of a high ankle sprain.

My bet is Starks and Hampton have played their last snaps as Steelers

Look for Gilbert to go to LT next season

The news just keeps getting worse.
geezus MF'in Krist, is there any Steeler left that aren't injured physically !!!!
that is, except for our Coaches, which appear to have some severe "mental" injuries, as of late.

this has to be some sort of record for injuries to key players.
The good new is that next year it would be highly unlikely to have this many starters injured. Impossible, no, but very unlikely.

FWIW the party line is that the coaches are pleased with Gilbert's play this season

I thought Starks would not get another contract before this injury - for whatever reason the coaching staff has been down on him for years

We managed to get a full season out of Troy for the first time since 2008 - he probably will go down again in 2012

As to this year's injuries, agreed with regard to Pouncey and Woodley who are in their 20s the injuries are just bad luck, but for NFL players in their 30s the body starts breaking down - that possibility has been hanging over this team for several years and may now finally need to be confronted on the defensive side of the ball by getting younger - bringing in new defensive talent will probebly lead to some slippage, which in turn means the offense will need to start delivering on this boundless promise Ben keeps talking aboout

Well next years big injury will be Tebow, as he should be the All Madden cover.

Problem with Starks is, he will be less than mobile for a while, which means the weight will come back.

Keisel, if he need surgery to stitch up the muscle, thats 6-8months soon as you stitch it

Woodley would be a concern there too, as who knows about his hammy.

Hampton, who cares, we can cut him.

One thing that irritates the hell out of me is when a player needs surgery, and instead of getting it right away at the end of the season, they wait MONTHS. Then, in a brand new season, before training camp even starts, they are already on the injured list because they are still nursing an injury that should have been taken care of a while back. These guys need to get better starting now, we have to have Keisel and Starks next season, I hope they don't wait. This was the most injured team I have ever seen, specifically with key players. It's safe to say we didn't stand a chance in hell of beating the Pats, we struggle to beat them with our starting 11, a second string defense would have got destroyed.
