Default Steeler Signings

The Steelers signed 10 players today to Reserve/Future contracts for the 2012 season. Five members of the Steelersí 2011 practice squad were among the 10 players signed to the teamís 2012 offseason roster.

The Steelers announced today that OG John Malecki,TE Jamie McCoy, OT Chris Scott, OT Trevis Turner and DT Corbin Bryant have re-signed with the team after spending part or all of the 2011 season on the clubís practice squad. Bryant was the only player to spend time on the active roster in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Steelers also signed quarterback Jerrod Johnson, defensive lineman Mike Blanc, defensive tackle Kade Weston, cornerback Marshall McFadden and defensive back Antonio Smith.

All those of guys will be cut once the season starts though, but it is not bad to have depth at the positions you really need and that is what they have done with these 10 guys. I thought that OT Chris Scott was going to make the team out of camp, but he had a bad preseason and was cut. DT Corbin Bryant was on the active roster for one week and played sparingly in that one week, but he showed some glimpses. But those are really the only two players who will get significant time in mini-camp and training camp.

Defensive back Antonio Smith? Clever disguise Anthony but you already got a chance playing for the Steelers lol.

I always enjoyed watching Jerrod play when he was at A&M. He's a big guy so he can take a few hits, which is more than I can say about some QBs on our roster. During his junior season, he was looking like a high draft pick, but had a pretty bad senior season.

Can we keep this CB McFadden and get rid of the other one?

I remember Tunch Illkin being high on Corbin Bryant in preseason. Smith could make a good third string QB for us. We're going to need to get some good QB depth since I expect Batch to retire, Dixon to leave, and Leftwich is a wildcard with his injury proneness.
