Default Belichick's decison making may have cost Pat's Super Bowl

Saturday, February 11, 2012
By Toni Monkovic, New York Times
What was New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick's strategy when the New York Giants tried to mount a late fourth-quarter rally in the Super Bowl?

"Make them go to Manningham" -- five words that will haunt Patriots fans and delight Giants fans for years to come.

The sideline instruction to his defense, which turned painfully prophetic, was captured by an NFL Network show that wired several players, coaches and officials in the Super Bowl.

Crouched on the sideline in front of the seated players, Belichick emphasized that they had to focus on Giants receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

I have never bought into the "genius" garbage. Anybody can call the right plays when hw knows what play the other team is about to run. In his defense though, Manningham had problems fading to the sideline and making the throw nearly impossible. The genius is 0-2 since spy gate.

I could see the irony of such a statement if the game turned into a blowout with Manningham lighting the place up all game.

But in a game that's decided by less than 7 points, you're pretty much looking at a game that could have gone either way and that usually has one big play that decides the outcome and Manningham's catch just happened to be THAT play. Of course Welker's miss, to me, was the back-breaker because if he makes that catch, it's pretty much game over and the Giants know that - especially since it was a drop and not because of some great defensive play.

It was just one of those games that came down to the wire and was decided by one great play and one bad one.
I really don't see how anyone could beat up Belichick or for that matter, praise Coughlin to any great extent.

Are you saying he should of pulled Cruz' coverage?
It was a lucky fluke catch. Belichick made the right call.
