I just heard breaking news on KDKA that according to one of Barbaro's co-owners, Barbaro was euthanized earlier today. The stories are just now breaking on both Fox's and CNN's websites. As a former horse owner, this news breaks my heart.

I just heard on ESPN that Chris Henry chopped off Barbaro's head and will place it in Mike Brown's bed if he talks about him one more time in the media.

I agree, HTG it is sad. However, I am glad they euthanized him if he was going to spend the rest of his days in pain.

I know HG...he had so many people rooting for him...I guess his owners decided to not let him suffer anymore.

I definitely agree fansince and memphis - it was best not to let him suffer. Horses are really wonderful animals - my horse was very affectionate and gentle as a lamb. His name was AnchorF - my ex and I were part owners with a driver at The Meadows. He was a huge black stallion and though he was a demon on that track, he was such a big baby off the track - LOL!

I'm a firm believer that animals shouldn't suffer when hope is lost - Barbaro's owners did the right thing here.

Just heartbroken to have heard the news about Barbaro, but it was surely the best thing for him at this point. Rest in peace, and Godspeed to his owners, who must be devastated. Any animal lover who has had to euthanize a beloved friend and family member knows exactly how they are feeling today.
