Default MSN Sports Running Back Rankings

They have us 8th, with no mention of Haynes.

And this is what they said:

The Steelers prepare ? a tear in their eye ? to begin life after Bettis. Duce Staley will try to do a better job this year of staying healthy and being the MicroBus. Willie Parker is the Steelers' little engine that could. He looks like a poor man's Clinton Portis, built the same way and given a similar number of carries in his first year as a starter. Apparently the difference between a second-round pick and an undrafted free agent is the difference between 5.5 and 4.8 yards per carry. With Parker starting and Staley playing the role of short yardage battering ram, all behind superlative blocker Dan Kreider, the Steelers shouldn't miss Bettis' production on the field nearly as much as his leadership off it.

That's more respect (ranking wise) than FOX sports gave us....

11. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers will continue to work their power ground game, even through longtime fantasy hero Jerome Bettis has left for the broadcast booth. Willie Parker will shoulder the load this season, offering a great combination of speed and toughness in between the tackles. Parker averaged 4.7 yards per carry and rushed for 1,202 yards last season that culminated with a 75-yard sprint to the end zone in Super Bowl XL.

Duce Staley and Verron Haynes enter training camp in a competition for the backup and vulture roles. Staley underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last season, and though he feels much improved, he has been limited in two straight seasons. He has a slight edge over Haynes based on his past successes (830 rushing yards in 2004). The whispers continue that Pittsburgh is in the market to acquire Duckett, who has fallen out of favor somewhat in Atlanta.

The Steelers have the potential to be very good at RB, although a number of a factors have to drop into place to make this happen.

Willie has to deal with the fact that teams will have been gameplanning against him all offseason, and wont have Uncle Bettis to give him advice at crucial moments.

Duce Staley has to play a large % of the season and the postseason, if required.

Verron Haynes has to step up and take some more of the load, especially if the above 2 points dont work out.

If 2 out of these 3 question marks dont pan out - then the Steelers will struggle to run the ball effectively.

On the flip side, the Steelers passing game should be as respected more than it has been in recent years, which should open up things a little.

Haynes impressed me with a few runs last season. Fresh legs late in the game is what it's all about. Cowher was the coach to get the every-down back to understand it was about the big picture, not fantasy numbers.

I think the Steelers are going to be fine.

Yah 8th is good, could be a bit generous but notinng to complain about, certainly helps that our oline will be back for another season with more xp under the belt of the tackles and a possible new starter at rg (the best battle of training camp imo) will carry the offense, but Ben will be able to help them out by making more passing plays

Imagine if Duce were healthy, we would have been ranked in the top five.

I think Parker can learn a lot from Deuce. Deuce is a patient runner, and that's something Parker could stand to improve on. If he does, and if we open the passing game a little, Parker could have a very big year.

This scenario, and Heath Miller getting more chances in his second year, damn the future looks bright
