Some sources are reporting that the Steelers might be interested in getting Stewart and drop Mendy.
Would be awesome, but perhaps too costly. |

probably the same source that said mike tolbert was going to be signed by the steelers...
![]() the steelers have 6-8 mill in cap room , most of which will be needed to sign draft picks. there will be no free agents coming to town. if they do, they'll be some bum like johnathon scott...somweone you've never heard of.

If the Steelers come to an injury settlement with Mendenhall and possibly make some type of trade, it could be possible.
I have never been a huge fan of Mendenhall's attitude, work ethic, or running style. I would welcome a hard-nosed, explosive back such as Stewart. |

I don't think we'll have room seeing how Tolbert, Jacobs, Green Ellis, Hillis, Rice, Bush, and Forte are coming here.
I don't like Mendy's dancing, but I feel like he hasn't properly been utilized and his talents have been held back because of our o line and previous OC problems. If we lose Mendy, I hope he goes to a team that let's him flourish. I've never had any problems with Mendy's attitude or comments off the field either. Mendy's an intelligent man.

As much as I'd love to have him, I just don't see it. First off, he's not a FA, he's still under contract. What would the Panthers want for him? He's still young and hasn't taken much of a beating, but with our cap situation it just isn't feasible. Money issues aside, the most I'd offer is a 2nd rd. pick and even then I'd be hesitant. If we truly don't feel comfortable with the RB situation, I'd look in rounds 3 or 4 of the draft. Makes no sense in going after a quality back given our O-line issues.

Johnathan Stewart is Isaac Redman with more speed and less power. He's a nice piece, but retaining Mendenhall+Redman for nothing is better than wasting resources to acquire Stewart.

Wouldn't Stewart be in the last year of his contract like Mendenhall? No one will trade much for a guy in his last year unless a new multi-year, multi-million dollar deal was reached first, and I'm sure the guy wants to be paid. Maybe that's why Carolina signed Tolbert, knowing they were going to let Stewart walk after this year.
