Default ROOKIES

Just thought I would fill some space since its a slow time of year..and make us all more aware of our new players. I took this information from a combination of 4 different magazines and tried to offer what they could agree on.

1 (25) Holmes,Santonio Wide Reciever 5'10 185lbs

2005- played 12/12 games 53 REC 977 YDS 18.4 YPC 11 TD

Strengths: Strong route runner, can go deep, can beat man coverage
Weaknesses: Off-field problems, can be overpowered by bigger DB's
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 (83) Smith,Anthony Safety 5'11 194lbs

2005- played 11/11 games 71 TKLS 6 INT 2 FF 3 FR

Strengths: Hits likes a truck, good wrap around tackler, intelligent and will study film, vocal leader, finished second in nation in interceptions, knows how to get in position.
Weaknesses: Not alot of experience with man to man coverage, not great playing speed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 (95) Reid,Willie WR/KR 5'10 189lbs

2005- played 11/11 games 50 REC 634 YDS 12.7 YPC 1 TD

Strengths: Game breaking ability, good vision and quickness, hard worker, good blocker, returned three punts for TD's, field leader..very vocal. Will fight for extra yards.
Weaknesses: Not very Big or strong, history of minor injuries.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 (131) Colon,Willie Guard 6'3 315lbs

2005-played 11/11 games

Strengths: Experience with playing at fast pace, fundamentally sound, can play guard or tackle, hard-worker, sound sleeper.
Weaknesses: Needs to learn to slide, played at smaller school, may take some time to fully develope.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 (133) Harris,Orion Defensive Tackle 6'3 302lbs

2005-played 12/12 games 40 TKLS 3.5 SACKS 1 FR

Strengths: Very strong, can anchor and take on a double team, big mistake to block him one-on-one
Weaknesses: Needs to have a coach light a fire under him. could be more aggressive, can get out of position
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 (164) Jacobs,Omar QB 6'4 225lbs

2005-played 9/9 games 60.7% comp% 2,590 yds 26 TD 7 INT

Strengths: Generally makes good sound field decisions, strong arm, in 2004 put up UNBELIEVABLE numbers (4002 yds...41 TD's...4 INT)
Weaknesses: Funky side-arm throw, played shotgun so his numbers are inflated, will have to get comforatable taking snaps under center and going through progression reads.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 (167) Davis,Charles TE 6'6 260lbs

2005-played 11/11 games 26 REC 311 YDS 1 TD

Strengths:Good size, will go after the ball, decent motor
Weaknesses: Not an overpowering blocker, sometimes acts more like a WR than a TE, nees to redefine his technique to be an NFL TE.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6 (201) Phillips,Marvin 6'1 307lbs

2005-played 12/12 games

Strengths: Competitive battler, good hands, can pull and plays very quick, intelligent
Weaknesses: lacks idea height, history of minor injuries, is older (24) for a rookie, slight problem handling large defensive linemen due to poor upper body strength.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7 (240) Humes,Cedric 6'0 233lbs

2005-played 12/9 games 752 YDS 4.6 AVE 11TD's

Strengths: Big.. Strong back. Can push the pile. Plays better as the game progresses.

Other than a few inches and a couple of pounds, Reid sounds like a mini-me of Hines Ward, except that he also doubles as a kick return specialist. I'm anxious to see what this young man can do.

I agree about Reid and Smith is looking like a solid pick up. The will to work hard seems to be there. While the speed burners get gobbled up in the first round what Smith brings to the table are necessities.

Hits likes a truck, good wrap around tackler, intelligent and will study film, vocal leader, finished second in nation in interceptions, knows how to get in position.

Sounds better than impressing a stopwatch.

One difference between Hines and Willie Reid though. Willie Reid has alot more speed then Hines Ward. I'm with you though I really excited and anxious to see what Willie Reid can do.

I would really like to see Reid have a good career here in Pittsburgh in all facets of the game not just returning kicks.. I hope that Anthony Smith can more than replace Hope at FS and I honestly think that Orien Harris will end up being a DE for us.. he is quick and can make great tackles.. I watch alot of Hurricanes football, they are my favorite college team and he can make plays..
God Bless
