Default Sean Spence....the new Ray Lewis?

They said Lewis was too small coming out of the U. They're saying the same thing about Spence.

Both players tackling machines who averaged over 100 tackles each of their last two seasons, and had similar past defense numbers, sacks and tackles for loss.

Not saying Spence will become Ray, but interesting similarities between the two players.

Spence may actually be more mobile in the passing game though not as strong as Ray at the point of attack, which may make Spence a better player for the current and future NFL.

We'll see. Thoughts?

Thats stretching it REAL far...Lewis was a stud from freshman year on...Left College a year early and was ranked the number 1 linebaker in the draft.

He had an immediate impact with the Ravens as a rookie....Spence probably wont see the field on defense his rookie year.

Lets hope in the end you are right....but as of now, not likely.

Chalk this up with ..."A.Q Shipley is the next Mike Webster".

If my memory is correct I believe Ray Lewis wasn't even the 1st LB picked in that draft. I think he was the 5tth LB selected.

But that means nothing, who knows how a player will translate to the pros, usually Miami players do very well so I hope the trend stays steady.

Kevin Hardy was the number one rated linebacker that year (Ray was somewhere between the 3rd and 5th best), and there were a lot of questions whether Ray Ray would ever become an effective starter, much less a star, since he was comparatively small for the position. Sound familiar?

I hope I'm wrong but I think this guy was the Steelers Bonehead pick of the 2012 draft, not drinking the Koolaid so the saying goes.

Yea, I'm not lovin this pick . But when it comes to LB's I think no other team scouts them better then the Steelers. So I'll just assume they know what they are doing and they got a stud in round 3. At the very least he could be a Larry Foote in a couple years. ? Depth is important.

I was a little surprised with the pick too because he's small relative for LBs in our system but we are a great team at developing LBs- I'm sure Butler and Lebeau will do wonders with the guy. Disagree with those who compare the pick to Davis, Davis was a tweener and not a natural LB. I agree with those who say the pick may be a response to the growth of the two speedy TE set that NE has popularized. Can't wait to see what our picks are capable of.

they drafted Sean Spence because:
1) hes fast
2) closing speed
3) very instinctive
4) always around the ball

i was watching his highlights, and he makes great plays.
he reminded me quite a bit of how TROY POLAMALU plays football.

great instincts and great football player, just not sure if Spence will flourish in his position as a ILB in the Pro's.

Gary Bracket from the Colts was an undrafted FA out of Rutgers. He was about 5'-10" and not anywhere near as fast as Spence. A few pro bowls later.... Bottom line with Spence's speed, athleticism and great instincts it will more than cover up the 2 inches of height he has. How big was Singletary?
