Default My blackjack pet peeve.

I have a pet peeve that got me the other day. I ****ing hate it when people in casinos, at Blackjack tables, feel the need to tell you how to play your hand. It breaks all kinds of table etiquette.

Now I like going to the casino where I play mostly craps & poker but will play a little blackjack from time to time. I know how to play. And, like some gamblers, I will hold with a 12 with the dealer showing a 3. Regardless of what the book says, I win doing that more often then not. I am not a huge gambler and don?t go all the time.

So my brother is in town over the weekend (Detroit) and we decide to hit the casino as a night out. We are both killing on the craps tables?just lighting up the house. I turned $50 into $600 in about an hour. Anyway, I decide to go see a friend of mine who is dealing blackjack. I walk over to his table and there are two players (six total spots). So I sit and pull out some cash. Mind you, we are on a $5 table, not a high roller table. The guy sitting to my right looks pissed and asks ?Hey man, why you gots to ruin the table!? Dude, there are FOUR open seats!!! Don?t assume I can?t play! I told the guy to relax. He was worried I would throw the cards off. Screw that. Moron, it?s all luck and if me being there doesn?t suit you, find another table. *******.

I believe you play your game and don?t worry about other people. You worry about yourself and play smart. If someone doesn?t like your play, they can move. It is poor etiquette to tell people how to play if they don?t ask. If I want to hold on a 12, then I am going to hold. Don?t tell me I?m wrong. It?s GAMBLING!

My brother doesn?t know blackjack all that much beyond the basics. We sit down at a cheap table with two other people and I am helping him. This lady at the end (who looks like she was using her freshly cashed welfare check to play) is bitching up a storm at my suggestions to my brother. I told her she could move if she didn?t like how we played. Now, I know how to play, I know the odds. This lady was telling me to hit on a 16 with dealer showing a 4. **** that.

Wouldn?t? you know we came out ahead and she was losing.

People can be so rude.

the first time i played blackjack in a casino i had about the same experience. i play on gut, instinct, chance and luck. i dont always play it by the book. granted i was a newbie but people were getting pissed that i was either taking "their cards" or passing on what shoulda been "my" cards.

screw em. thats why they call it gambling. you got me fired up. now i remember what bastards i thought they were.

It just amazes me at the stupidity....People saying "Oh, if you don't play by the book then you throw off the odds for the table!" **** that! The house wins in the long run anyway!

Don't let anyone tell you how to play cards at the table unless you ask. It is considered extremely rude. If you don't like how someone is playing, leave. I come across people at times who don't know what they are doing (like an elderly lady holding with an 11 ) but it isn't my place to say anything. She can do what she wants with her money, If I don't like it I leave. It's part of gambling.

Sorry...nothing pisses me off more then things like that.

I have also done that before. Say there are a couple empty chairs at a table I am sitting at and somone comes to fill up that chair. It interrupts the flow of cards I have been getting, if I am on a winning streak. I also get a lil POed but only for a moment as I recognize the ramifications!~ I have never said a word to a player. Just smiled. Then on the other hand if the cards I am getting suck and he sits down, he is now going to interrupt the sucky cards I have been getting! And that is a good thing., Again I just smile :)

Of course...but if I was worried about people who didn't know how to play then I would be at a higher stakes table. You can't expect everyone at a $5 table to be master Blackjack strategists. Some people are just throwing down a few bucks for some fun and some laughs.

And, there is no such thing as "flow of cards". I know we feel that way sometimes but if you really paid attention to every time people came or left the table, it would still even out over the long run. Human instinct is to place blame. In the end, no one knows what card is coming next. No one.

That makes sense to me! As you said it "seems" to interrupt the flow and heck that is all I need a new perspective even if it is a fairy tale! LOL:)

I knew what it was going to be before I opened the topic!

I agree 100% Hammer, that's why I don't play blackjack. I learned craps a short while ago and I love it; learn the rules, make smart bets, ride the streak and cash out, come back to another table later on and do it again. Last time I played, the shooter threw an 8 6 times out of 9 rolls before hitting the point of 10; I was letting my place bets on 6/8 ride after the second 8, wound up the session about $400 to the good after the usual ups and downs over the next hour or so.

But blackjack, well, the cards are what they are and have no knowledge of who is where or how many players are sitting at a table; for all anyone knows, you sat down exactly when the streak was going to change, and you prolonged it; or, you took a card that would have busted a guy and instead he got a good card, or if you would not have taken a card the NEXT card would have busted him.

Thing is, all the other table games have such a high house edge I'd rather play slots or video poker. It's hard to even get a streak going at 3 Card Poker, Let It Ride, or Carribean Stud; those games just grind your bankroll down.

To heck with all of 'em...you have just as much right to be there as they do....do what you wish.
